Mayfield Lake Youth Camp is seeking a dedicated and self-motivated Caretaker to live on-site in southwest Washington near Mayfield Lake. Assist the Camp Manager with summer camping operations, repair, and maintenance of our beautiful campground. This is a unique opportunity for someone who loves the outdoors, values community, and is committed to ensuring a safe and well-maintained environment for campers and staff. About the Facility:
Our campground encompasses approximately 80 acres located near Mayfield Lake in Mossyrock, Washington. We currently host several youth camping programs throughout the spring & summer season. Since its inception, MLYC has been dedicated to fostering a love of nature, building lasting friendships, and encouraging personal growth. Our property consists of multiple rustic buildings, several grassy fields, RV sites, basketball, volleyball & tennis courts, Ga-Ga ball pit, lakefront w/dock and a 300’ ft. waterslide making it an inspiring and rewarding place to live and work.
Responsibilities:
As the Camp Caretaker, you will be responsible for maintaining the camp facilities and ensuring the property is ready for seasonal operations. Key duties include:
- Property Maintenance: Perform routine upkeep of buildings, grounds, and waterfront areas, including mowing, trimming, tree pruning, and minor repairs including electrical and plumbing.
- Equipment Management: Maintain and periodically service camp vehicles, tools, machinery such as tractor, lawnmowers, ATV, trailers and attachments.
- Safety and Security: Monitor the property for any safety or security concerns, acting as the eyes/ears of the facility while on-site, address hazards, and ensure compliance with local regulations.
- Housekeeping and Setup: Prepare cabins, common areas, and activity spaces for seasonal use, including cleaning, repairs, and restocking supplies.
- Communication: Act as the primary on-site contact for guests, visitors, contractors, deliveries, and emergencies.
- Seasonal Transition: Assist in winterizing the campground water system at the end of the season and preparing/re-starting for reopening in the spring.
- Camp Presence: Act as a liaison for Mayfield Lake Youth Camp by welcoming visitors, guests, user groups and representing camp values.
Qualifications:
- Experience in grounds keeping, maintenance, property management, or a related field.
- Knowledge of basic computers, carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical repairs.
- Ability to work independently, solve problems, and prioritize tasks.
- Ability and current license to drive with acceptable driving record.
- Effective communication and organizational skills with the ability to supervise others.
- Physical ability to perform hands-on tasks and lift to 60 pounds.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period, climb ladders, walk, lift and/or move up to 60 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear, and have good visual acuity.
- The work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may require travel to various local areas/locations.
While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
Essential Functions:
- Supervises and oversees annual presence at camp, ensuring facility security, cleanliness and preparedness for rentals and programs.
- Works effectively with others, including the Camp Manager, Director of Operations & Seasonal Staff.
- Provides coordination of facility maintenance, including planning and developing preventative maintenance.
- Ensures the proper operation of all vehicles and mechanical systems.
- Completes repair work and projects in a timely manner.
- Oversees contractors that work on the facility and grounds. May request/review bids and recommend selection for approval.
- Works with outside agencies such as fire, health, building depts., etc. to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to facilities and grounds.
- Assists with scheduling and supervision of Seasonal Staff and Volunteers.
- Reviews and evaluates performance & develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Advises management on maintenance and repair issues as needed- and submit expense receipts regularly.
- Cleans assigned areas- including grounds keeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, road cleaning, dock cleaning, snow removal, meeting room set up, and other related responsibilities.
- Assists with coordination of work parties utilizing a volunteer base of camp supporters.
- Encouraged to obtain Lifeguard Certification.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Compensation / Pay: Wage/Salary starting $1,250-$1,500/mo. DOE + all housing & utilities paid

Ability to Relocate: Mossyrock, Washington: Relocate to campground prior to work / start of employment
Work Location: On-site / with some local travel
