SALARY & FLSA: $38.14 per hour; FLSA non-exempt

$38.14 - $43.57 per hour is the pay range for this job classification. Every temporary employee under the Joint Crafts Council wage scale, is placed at the first step of the job classification's pay range, which is $38.14 per hour. Temporary staff are not eligible to earn more than the Step 1 payrate, which may be adjusted annually per the contract.

This position is an on-call, project-based role. Projects may last from 1-2 days to a few months.

As our new Temporary Exhibit Specialist, we know you will be successful in this role because you:

Have A Creative Mind: You enjoy using various forms of artistry to build, repair, and enhance exhibits all around Woodland Park Zoo. You are excited by the prospect of creating artificial trees, vines, and rocks by using a variety of materials such as concrete, fiberglass, epoxy, polyester and other resins, urethanes, plastic, wood and metal.

Pay Attention to Details: You thrive in an environment where details matter. You are able to juggle multiple deadlines and projects at one time, and are comfortable problem solving when challenges arise in the middle of a project.

Are a Problem Solver: Occasionally aesthetics and functional needs clash but that doesn’t faze you. You are always searching for a way to make both aesthetics and functional needs work cohesively. When asked by other departments for your help and expertise you are always happy to assist with creative design solutions and construction.

Enjoy Working in Various Conditions: Working outdoors, year-round in various conditions is something you enjoy. You don’t mind working in mud, dirt, various temperatures, heights or tight spaces.

YOUR PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Research material for the construction of exhibits.

Construct artificial exhibitry elements such as trees, vines, and rocks using a variety of materials such as concrete, fiberglass, epoxy, polyester and other resins, urethanes, plastic, wood and metal.

Fabricate exhibit components such as display cases, interactive mechanical or electrical elements, and models.

Assist in preparing and finalizing schematic designs and documents for exhibits.

Perform construction maintenance, repair or alteration work related to exhibit maintenance and construction.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or GED and three years of set production and fabrication related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong artistic and creative abilities with an eye for detail.

Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar.

Ability to sculpt and paint realistic textures and forms, and to make models, molds and castings.

Skilled in carpentry, welding, sculpting, painting, concrete and other fabrication techniques.

Familiarity with plumbing, electrical, and sound/video technologies applicable to the exhibitry industry and stage- or construction-rigging expertise.

Successful applicants must live and work in Washington State to perform this role.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a valid WA driver's license with a safe driving history.
