Position Summary:
The Black Infant and Maternal Mental Health Specialist is a crucial member of the Parents as Teachers (PAT) Program, specializing in offering direct mental health support to African American pregnant women and families with children aged 0-3 in the Seattle area. This role involves collaborative work with Parent Educators and direct engagement with families on their caseload through both in-person and virtual sessions.
Responsibilities:
Individual Counseling:
Provide culturally competent and trauma-informed mental health counseling to pregnant women and families with children aged 0-3, addressing perinatal and postpartum mental health, parenting, and family dynamics.
Group Sessions:
Conduct Maternal group therapy sessions to create a supportive environment for families to share experiences, build connections, and receive guidance on mental health and well-being. Sessions will be conducted in-person and virtually.
Collaboration with Parent Educators:
Work closely with Parent Educators to integrate mental health support into the holistic care provided to families, ensuring a coordinated and comprehensive approach.
Assessment and Goal Setting:
Conduct mental health assessments and collaboratively set goals with families to address their unique needs and challenges.
Crisis Intervention:
Provide timely and appropriate crisis intervention for families experiencing acute mental health concerns, coordinating with the supervisor and other relevant professionals.
Virtual and In-Person Engagement:
Flexibly engage with families through virtual platforms and in-person visits, adapting to the preferences and needs of the families.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and progress notes. Perform data entry tasks to generate reports as required by the supervisor and program guidelines.
Professional Development:
Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in the field of Black infant and maternal mental health. Attend relevant training and workshops to enhance skills.
