We are looking for an experienced veterinary nurse to join a busy predominantly small animal practice on Vashon Island. This is for a 30 to 40 hr/wk position with benefits (including ferry fare reimbursement) and will include some Saturday shifts. We are looking for a highly motivated nurse to join our team. Qualifications:
Washington LVT certification
2 years work experience in a veterinary clinic strongly preferred
Experience in caring for, handling and monitoring animals safely, effectively and humanely
Ability to communicate in a professional, pleasant, respectful and courteous manner at all times
Sense of humor and deep appreciation for animals and people
Primary Job Duties:
Perform patient check-in and check-out procedures
Perform venipuncture including placement of peripheral IV catheters
Perform treatments, monitor progress and take responsibility for the care of hospitalized patients
Triage and help stabilize critically ill patients
Induce, intubate, and properly monitor patients under anesthesia
Assist doctors with clinical, dental, and surgical procedures
Take digital radiographs, perform in-house lab work, fill prescriptions
Skills Required:
Confidently perform above job duties when working with dogs and cats
Ability to work independently and efficiently within the guidelines of our treatment plans
Demonstrate proficiency in math including the ability to calculate drug doses without assistance
Proficient with computers and use of electronic medical records
Ability to communicate and explain complicated medical concepts in a clear and professional manner to clients, co-workers and doctors
Although we see mostly dogs and cats, we are a mixed animal practice, and are happy to train you to work with whatever species you are not familiar with. We generally do not see horses.
Must be able to lift 40 lbs, and have no animal, chemical, or scent sensitivities. We do not mind if you have piercings, tattoos, or fabulous hair.
