POSITION PURPOSE Serve as Outreach and Events Manager to develop and steward alumni and constituent relations and outreach for the Communication Department. This position works with the Chair of the Department to design, manage and implement Department efforts to sustain and build relationships with alumni and friends of the Department, with a key goal of engaging these individuals to provide mentorship and professional opportunities for students, and to support the College of Arts and Sciences’ and UW Advancement’s efforts to attract financial contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations to support Department students, faculty, staff and initiatives.POSITION COMPLEXITIES To continually evaluate, design and implement a strategic plan to engage Communication Department alumni and other constituents with an affinity for our work. Must be adept at high-level communication, strategic thinking, event planning, prioritizing, and relationship building amongst a variety of audiences and across diverse contexts. Attention to detail and a collaborative sensibility is key. Responsible for project design, management, and execution of all aspects of activities to promote alumni and donor relations, including the cultivation, management, and evaluation of data in support of stakeholder relations, the conceptualization and delegation of marketing content production, and the oversight and collaboration of community-focused events and communications to nurture these relationships. The person holding this position serves as a steward of the Department’s reputation and identity among our alumni, donors, and the broader community.POSITION DIMENSIONS AND IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY The position will have substantial responsibility for creatively planning and implementing methods (i.e., events, publications, e-communications, website and mailings) to accomplish the Department's development and relationship objectives, primarily by building visibility and broadening the base of support among alumni, staff, faculty, and other constituents, across the Seattle area and beyond. This position is also one of several brand ambassadors for the Communication Department, aligning Department messaging and presentations with those of the University, while increasing points of connection between the UW and its constituents.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · 40% Strategic planning outreach efforts in collaboration with Chair and other team members; this includes the design, management and execution of several annual (and ad hoc) events; supervising and leading the work of Communications and social media interns and staff; the production of a quarterly alumni newsletter, stories for the department website and social media platforms, and other outreach efforts;

· 40% Develop initiatives toward broadening and stewarding relationships and networks among department alumni and other friends of Communication, engaging alumni and other communications industry professionals in student professional development programming;

· 20% Steward donor relationships, in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences and UW central Advancement staff. This includes initiating thank yous to donors from chair and students, and coordinating meetings or other engagement opportunities among alumni, faculty, and students, and facilitating scholarship stewardship.LEAD RESPONSIBILITIES This position leads the development and running of a robust community and alumni relations program for the Communication Department, including the cultivation, management, and assessment of data in support of stakeholder relations, the conceptualization and production of marketing content, and the creation of broad scope community-focused events and communications to nurture these relationships. The position leads planning and implementing tools and programs (i.e., events, mailings, publications, e-communications, and web pages) to accomplish the unit's fundraising and relationship objectives, primarily by building visibility, identifying and engaging stakeholders in the work and stories that define our community, and broadening the base of support among alumni, faculty, staff, and other constituents across the Seattle area and beyond.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Potential supervision of one full FTE Public Information Specialist (Communications and Outreach Specialist) as well as student staff and / or volunteers on various ongoing or intermittent work related to outreach projects, Department development, events and data management.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's Degree

Minimum work experience 2 to 3 yearsEquivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working in/with an interdisciplinary or liberal arts educational context.

Proficiency with personal computing environment, including data and content management systems like Drupal, WordPress or equivalent.

Knowledge of UW Advancement policies and procedures, including use of the development database software.

Experience incorporating University of Washington specific branding and brand tenets into relative communication vehicles, digital and printed.
