Trupanion is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Operational Accountant to join our Finance Operations team. In this role, you will ensure that Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Procurement, and Commission processes are efficient, accurate, and aligned with financial reporting requirements. This role requires deep accounting knowledge, problem-solving abilities, strong data analyzing skills and a and a natural curiosity to understand how things work to continuously improve processes. As the Operational Accountant, you will spearhead process improvements across these functions, drive innovation, and support ongoing enhancements while facilitating recurring monthly and regulatory reporting. We are looking for a candidate eager to learn, embrace complexity, build relationships and contribute to the growth of a high-performing finance team. This position is open to candidates in the Seattle area. You will have a hybrid remote/in-office schedule where you will work from our casual, pet-friendly office at least 3 days a week. What you will do: Ensure AP, AR, and Procurement, and Commission processes are efficient, accurate, and structured to meet GAAP requirements. Calculate, validate, and process commissions accurately based on sales data. Oversee AP, AR, and Commissions system and process changes, ensuring proper testing and validation. Analyze AP, AR, and Commissions data to support informed decision-making across the business. Lead initiative to implement a procurement function at Trupanion Work cross-functionally to identify areas for process improvement and assist in implementing solutions that enhance efficiency and data accuracy. Provide support for audits and ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements. Perform monthly account reconciliations and support cash forecasting and analysis. Experience you have:  BS/BA degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or Business, preferred. 3+ years of accounting or finance operations experience, including AP, AR, and Commissions. Tactical knowledge of 1099 full cycle and state reporting (Unclaimed Property) What you’ll bring:  Strong accounting knowledge, with a deep understanding of AP, AR, Procurement, and related accounting requirements Experience working with Workday, or other ERP preferred. Knowledge of financial technology/systems desired Advanced MS Office/Excel skills Proven ability to analyze financial data and translate insights into actionable recommendations Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy Critical thinking and problem-solving mindset Proven ability to analyze financial data and translate insights into actionable recommendations Excellent communication and collaboration skills Capacity to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing business needs Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines Compensation: The pay range for this position is $78,000 - $90,000, on a full-time schedule. Along with base salary, Trupanion employees may be eligible for monthly bonuses. We want all employees to be invested in Trupanion’s success, so we grant Restricted Stock Units to all new team members. Our new hire grants vest over 4 years.
