The Manager of Audience Development directs the School of Drama’s efforts to develop and engage audiences for our productions. In conjunction with the Director of Engagement, this position will also contribute to the day-to-day aspects of the School of Drama’s broad-based engagement efforts. This position will report to and work closely with the SoD’s Director of Engagement and the Executive Director. Position duties include implementing strategies for audience development, engagement and retention. The position will focus primarily on developing audiences that represent the larger UW Seattle community and to a lesser degree non-UW communities. This position is expected to engage a wide range of audiences, including students, prospective students, alumni, donors, and the community at large through activities such as post-show surveys and special events related to our productions.The School of Drama is committed to building and supporting a multicultural community that fosters equity, diversity, inclusion, and access. Attend EDI+A, sexual harassment, anti-bias/anti-oppression training, and workshops as scheduled by the School.
Stay current with and participate in the School’s Process for Voicing and Receiving Concerns.Audience Development, Marketing, and Engagement (70%)
Expand and build strategies to develop and engage audiences for School of Drama productions. This includes strategizing, planning, budgeting, and implementation.
Plan and implement interactive activities such as post-show surveys, roundtable talks, and backstage tours to engage audience members and enhance their experiences.
Work with the Director of Engagement to plan small to medium-sized events each year including opening nights at theatres, production-related events such as symposiums and “talk-backs” and a potential Drama lecture series. Includes some evenings.
Monitor/track/analyze current and historical attendance and ticket sales
Assist the Director of Engagement with the promotion of School activities, including production season and academic events.
Contribute to press releases, press alerts, articles, and calendar listings to highlight the activities of the School. This work may require conducting general research on topics or individuals to be featured.
Gather and analyze data from post-show surveys, Google Analytics, etc.
Create content to contribute to the School of Drama e-newsletter and e-blasts.
Communicate with constituents of the SoD, including, alumni, guests, faculty, staff, and students. This may include e-mail, web-based, social media, and/or written forms.Patron Relations (15%)
Provide outstanding customer service to the constituents of the School of Drama.
Work closely with UWArts ticketing office to coordinate Drama’s production calendar, and ticket sales information, and resolve patron issues.
Manage complimentary ticket requests with UWArts Tickets on behalf of the SoD
Correspond with audience constituents including “know-before-you-go” e-mails, thank-you letters, invitations, newsletters, and requests for information.Administration (15%)
Design and build SoD show programs for each production, working closely with the School of Drama Production Office.
Update content on social media sites and on SoD websites.
Perform other duties as assigned.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree
Two years experience in marketing, communications, advancement, journalism, theatre, or related fields.Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Capacity to work professionally with many constituencies (e.g. staff, faculty, students, alumni, donors, vendors, and volunteers.)DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Proficiency with Marketo, and/or other e-mail distribution systems such as Mail Chimp, Constant Contact, etc
Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, In-Design.
Familiarity with Tessatura and/or other ticketing databases.
Diverse experience and/or advanced education in marketing/communications or public relations as well as event planning.
Experience or advanced education related to Advancement/Development
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Customer service minded in interaction, strategic planning, and implementation of projects
Experience working at the University of Washington and/or experience working with arts organizationsCONDITITONS OF EMPLOYMENT Attend School of Drama events on a regular basis
Access to reliable transportation that provides for local and regional travel in an efficient manner and on short-term notice
