Delivery Driver
The role of delivery driver is to serve our valued customers to the highest standards in the industry. We utilize various trucks to complete our deliveries: pickup trucks with a lumber rack; single axle, dump flat bed, 20′ box van with loading ramp; tandem axle 24′ flatbed with detachable(Piggy Back) forklift; and, 8000 lb hard tire forklifts in the lumber yard. Tasks for our associates through-out a typical day include but are not limited to Delivering product safely Load building Checking invoices and ensuring our customers are loaded accurately and in a timely manner Continuous Safety and cleanliness sweeps. Putting Freight away as needed. Rotation of stock material Light maintenance Any other tasks the yard supervisor deems appropriate when not busy with deliveries.
Duties & Responsibilities
Safety Check and maintain fluid levels, light and marker lamps, bleed air brakes and keep equipment clean. Report any concerns or needed maintenance items to supervisor for correction or scheduling of repair.
Assist with loading delivery vehicles either manually or utilize forklift.
Secure load to delivery vehicle with cinch binder straps, rope, banding or other form of restraint.
Deliver building materials to the job site utilizing the equipment itemized above.
This requires the employee to assess the job site and determine a safe area to unload the product.
For dump bed loads, the employee must unstrap the bunk or banded together materials, tilt the bed to a 45 degree angle releasing the bunk and pull out from under the load.
For forklift loads, the employee will un-strap the bunks of material from the truck, access the piggy back forklift (1st step is 23″ above ground level), remove lift from truck, unload bunks of lumber from the truck with the forklift and place around job site in a safe and accessible area. This requires the employee to get off the forklift to place dunnage under the bunk of lumber and then get back on the lift. This step is 8″ above ground at this time. Once all materials are unloaded the employee will then remount the forklift, secure it to the truck and return to the lumberyard.
For delivery of finish or fragile materials, this may require manually unloading items such as doors (100 lbs), trim (20 lbs.) and boxes of hardware (50 lbs.) Weights given are at the high end of those product lines.
Delivery personnel are required to fill out the drivers log in the delivery vehicle recording the in and out time for each load that is delivered. This is to maintain compliance with state and federal regulations.
Customer Service/Load Builder are additional duties performed after deliveries are complete for the day:
Assist customers in the lumberyard with material selection and loading of their vehicle. Make sure that load is secure and has a red danger flag attached if required.
Assist load builders in preparing deliveries for the next day. This may require lifting objects as much as 100 lbs. and using a forklift.
Load and secure materials in or on delivery vehicles for the first out deliveries for the next day.
Assist with putting away and rotating stock as well as organization and cleaning of the lumber yard.
Requirements & Qualifications
Must have a Class B CDL or above with air brake endorsement.
Must be able to operate a truck mounted moffit forklift.
Must be able to operate both 10 speed and manual speed transmissions.
Work well both independently and as a team member.
Good personal appearance.
Frequent bending, lifting/moving up to 100 lbs., reaching, standing walking.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Mechanical experience a plus.
Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
