Welder/Fabricator Level II

Summary:

Use welding equipment to join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products, in accordance with safety and quality standards. Assist in the fabrication of metal parts and assemblies by interpreting technical drawings, cutting, fitting, and assembling components to precise specifications.

Reports To: Production Manager

Pay Range:

Level I pay range: $20–22/hour

Level II pay range: $23–28/hour

Level III pay range: $29–33/hour

Duties:

Read and interpret layouts, engineering drawings, work orders, or verbal instructions to plan welding and fabrication work.

Layout, measure, cut, and shape metal components to specifications using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment (saws, grinders, shears, brakes, etc.).

Fit and assemble metal parts using jigs, fixtures, and clamps prior to welding.

Use precision measuring tools (tape measures, calipers, squares) to ensure accurate fabrication and fit-up of components.

Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements, with guidance from the Fab-Weld Lead / Welding Technical Lead

Configure and operate tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.

MIG or TIG weld aluminum components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).

Inspect outputs to ensure they meet design specifications and applicable regulatory requirements.

Notify the Production Manager or Fab-Weld Lead of defective material or equipment.

Follow company procedures to maintain welding equipment.

Wear appropriate PPE and demonstrate safe welding and fabrication practices. Comply with safety standards required by the company and regulatory bodies.

Obtain and maintain proper workplace training and certifications.

Participate in regular/required Welding Department meetings.

Complete work within specified deadlines set by the Welding Supervisor.

Collaborate with other Production personnel, as needed.

Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED and/or graduation from certified technical school.

3–5 years aluminum welding experience, boat-building preferred.

Welding certification (USCG, AWS, CWB, etc.) preferred.

Knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of aluminum welding and fabrication, including set-up parameters and equipment.

Ability to read and understand plans, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings.

Basic mathematical skills required in manufacturing environment.

Must be 18 years of age and eligible to work in the US.

Environment:

Work is performed in a metal manufacturing facility. Noise level can vary from moderate to high. The use of PPE (e.g. hand/hearing/eye protection) is required.

Continuous physical effort is required (standing, walking, stooping, climbing stairs, grasping/reaching above head height, lifting/moving items up to 50 pounds). The employee is occasionally required to work from a ladder and/or scaffolding.
