Job Description

Performs a variety of carpentry duties related to fabricating furnishings.

Job tasks include but are not limited to the following:

Job Tasks

Apply finishing materials such as paint, oil, stain and other sealants onto surfaces.

Smooth, shape and touch up surfaces to prepare them for finishing, using sandpaper, sanders, grinders, routers, saws and drills.

Fill and smooth cracks or depressions, remove marks and imperfections and/or repair broken parts, glue, nails or screws

Apply protective or decorative finishes to workpieces

Measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials

Ability to pattern and accurately cut pieces to fit into boat utilizing maximum yield of materials and maintaining finishing aesthetics

Fabricate sheet furnishings for boat interiors

Installation of insulation, paneling and trim to interior cabin

Install various components to interior and exterior of vessels such as windows, doors, grab bars, seats, cabinets, and cabin sole

Participate in the development of lean procedures, processes and methods

Technical Skills

Safely operate power tools and equipment, own basic tool kit: drill and driver kit, circular saw, hammer tape and layout tools.

Perform basic tool maintenance such as blade changes

Ability to interpret and build from drawings

Physical Requirements

Considerable periods of standing or walking throughout the facility to interface with associates

Requires kneeling, crouching, stooping or crawling

Requires lifting 50 lbs without assistance

Work Environment

Work is performed in a boat yard, which can subject workers to loud levels of noise, fumes, debris, tripping hazards and sharp metal edges. Personal protective equipment will be provided to staff, but personnel are responsible for ensuring that the equipment is properly used and for being aware of their surroundings.
