Seeking honest, hardworking farm hand for Johnson & Gunstone Shellfish company located on the Olympic Peninsula in the Sequim/Quilcene area. We are a 6th generation family farm growing and harvesting clams and oysters. Must be willing to sometimes work odd hours/nights as harvesting is needed. Looking for a self-motivated individual with a good attitude willing to work alone and/or with a crew.
Shellfish harvesting can only be done with the tide is low. This means that our crew's schedule is based on the tidal chart. We process shellfish at our plant in Discovery Bay on Sundays and Wednesdays and harvest as needed other days of the week. We try to have most Saturdays off and are flexible with time off. We work and live a unique and amazing lifestyle, but it does not align with the traditional 9-5, M-F job so it takes some getting used to.
Duties:
-Assisting with filling shellfish orders and prepping for future orders
-Harvesting shellfish with good husbandry practices
-Cleaning and maintaining shop
-Inventory - FIFO
Physical demands:
-Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk on uneven terrain up to 8 hours per day
-Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, twist, and squat on occasion for extended periods of time
-Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Other job requirements:
-Must have clean driving record
-Must be able to pass a drug test and background check
-Must be able to respond positively to instruction
-Resume required
-Ability for a flexible work schedule
Part-time or full-time work.
Preferred 21 years or older.
Aquaculture experience preferred.
Compensation:
-$18-21/hr depending on experience PLUS piece rate for harvesting shellfish
-Direct Primary Care Healthcare Membership
-Retirement: Simple IRA + company contribution after 1 year of employment
