Hours: Approximately 25 hours per week, including 8 hours onsite each Market day (50-52 weeks/year)
Job Overview:
The Market Manager will be responsible for overseeing all operations of the Port Angeles Farmers Market, including market setup, vendor coordination, customer relations, staff and volunteer management, and administrative duties. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with a variety of people, including, but not limited to, board members, vendors, shoppers, and local business and community leaders. The position requires an interest in local food systems, farming, and supporting small businesses in the community, as well as strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Key Responsibilities
Market Operations:
-Coordinate opening and closing of the market each week, including working with vendors during setup, breakdown, and throughout the market.
-Facilitate all transactions related to credit/debit, SNAP sales, including the vendor check-out and fee collection process.
-Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the market space before and after operating hours by ensuring Market policies and protocols are followed.
-Oversee customer and vendor relations.
-Work with volunteers and board members to coordinate special events, fundraising efforts, and entertainment.
Board and Program Support:
-Attend all board meetings and provide monthly reports.
-Work with board committees to design and implement new programs and develop sponsorships and partnerships to build community.
Administration & Outreach:
-Document weekly transactions and other record-keeping.
-Maintain and update permits and licenses.
-Send weekly promotional emails through Mailchimp and and work with marketing/social media manager and board to promote the market, vendors, and special events.
-Manage office equipment and coordinate the upkeep of Market supplies.
Vendor Relations:
-Communicate with prospective vendors.
-Foster a collaborative and supportive relationship with vendors, including sending weekly updates and being responsive to questions and concerns.
Qualifications:
Education: Individuals with any combination of education or experience that enables them to perform the job requirements will be considered.
Experience: Minimum of two years of customer service, and office or administrative experience.
Skills:
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), email, social media, and Mailchimp for newsletter distribution.
-Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse community members.
-Emotional maturity and the ability to make good decisions in a fast-paced environment.
-Excellent organizational, project management, and time management skills.
-Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
-Familiarity with the agricultural communities and Farmers' Markets of the Olympic Peninsula is a plus.
Other Requirements:
-Reliable transportation and the ability to perform market tasks from a home office.
-Comfortable working both outdoors year-round and in an office setting.
-Ability to safely lift and move tables, signage, and other market items up to 40 pounds and handle physical tasks such as ladder use and market setup.
