Summary The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is April-June but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2025. Responsibilities Duty Locations are: North Cascades National Park: Marblemount, Washington-, housing may be available. Major Duties are: Perform simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities. Assist higher graded maintenance mechanics/workers or journeyman tradesmen in the performance of their work. Perform minor carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools on such tasks as replacing broken planks on picnic tables; broken windows using precut stock, makes minor adjustments or replaces hinges, latches and catches and minor building, repairs. Perform minor painting using brush and roller according to specific instruction on projects where appearances are not critical such as staining picnic tables and trash barrels. Perform routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to regrade and reset barriers to restore areas to original appearances. Collect trash. Operate light trucks to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work. Clean and service chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities. Make minor repairs as needed and refer problems to higher graded workers. Operate a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment not requiring special rigging. Physical Demands: Incumbent works in shops, other buildings, and at construction and repair sites. Climbs on ladders and scaffolds. Work requires reaching overhead, bending, kneeling, and other awkward positions. Lifts heavy objects such as rafters and beams. Carry objects up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifts or moves items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside. Some work is performed in shops areas where worker is exposed to moderate to high noise levels and dust. Exposed to hazards associated while working on scaffolds or ladders. Subject to cuts, bruises, slivers, and falling objects. Uses protective equipment such as earplugs, eye protection, breathing protection, gloves, and helmets. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. Travel, transportation & relocation expenses will not be paid. Relocation expenses will be the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
