Overview
CDI Custom Design is seeking a skilled and motivated Shop Carpenter with 5+ years of hands-on cabinetry or millwork experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cabinet fabrication, an eye for detail, and a desire to take initiative and grow into a leadership role within our production team.
This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, professional shop environment and gradually assume more responsibility, including overseeing small teams, mentoring junior staff, and assisting with daily production coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Fabricate, assemble, and finish custom cabinetry, millwork, and architectural components.
Read and interpret detailed shop drawings and blueprints accurately.
Operate woodworking machinery and hand tools safely and efficiently.
Ensure quality control and consistency across all fabricated components.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
Collaborate with project managers and other shop staff to meet production schedules.
Take initiative in solving fabrication and fit-up challenges.
Begin assuming lead responsibilities over time, including:
Assisting in scheduling daily production.
Training and mentoring newer team members.
Supporting the Shop Manager in maintaining equipment and workflow efficiency.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of cabinetry or millwork experience in a production shop environment.
Strong knowledge of woodworking tools, equipment, materials, and joinery methods.
Ability to read, understand, and build from detailed shop drawings.
Demonstrated initiative, reliability, and problem-solving ability.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work well both independently and in a team setting.
Computer proficiency (Outlook, Excel, AutoCAD, 20/20, or similar) is an asset.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
Valid driver’s license preferred.
