Whatcom Community College welcomes applications for a Part-Time, Adjunct Instructor position to teach in the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program beginning summer quarter 2025 and to expand the pool of instructors for future positions that may occur. The current opening is for Summer 2025 programming which may include:
-ESOL 115/113 "Flex" - Transition Composition and Reading Skills I and II (6 Credits)
-ESOL 85 - English in the Community. (2 Credits).
Note:
-These courses meet during daytime hours (Monday-Thursday, between 9am-4pm).
-In the ESOL Program, "Flex" indicates one course with both asynchronous online and in-person modalities based on student visa requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
-M.A. degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or Adult Education with TESOL emphasis.
-Teaching experience in the field of English language learning.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience teaching in a community college and/or intensive English context.
-Experience teaching multi-level and/or split-level classes.
-Experience collaborating with other instructors.
-Evidence of competence using online learning platforms such as Canvas to facilitate learning and differentiate instruction (i.e. "Flex" classe -both asynchronous and in-person modalities).
-Evidence of proficiency applying instructional strategies to facilitate student achievement such as: Reading Apprenticeship, -Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, etc.
-Evidence of commitment to diverse international populations.
-Evidence of willingness to participate in continuing professional and program development.
Salary
-$1179.81 per course credit.
Benefit Package:
-Accrues a percentage of 7 hours (equal to the percentage of workload) per month of sick leave (ex. 50% quarterly employment contract x 7 hrs for full-time = 3.5 hrs per month for that quarter).
Start Date:
-Summer quarter 2025.
