The Phlebotomist collects and processes blood specimens for testing in the laboratory. Incumbents maintain current knowledge and skills to independently perform dermal punctures on all age groups.
Collects blood specimens using age-appropriate techniques. Accurately aliquots, labels and stores specimens.
Evaluates specimens for acceptability prior to receipt and follows specimen rejections criteria. Communicates appropriately with ordering source and completes documentation.
Exhibits a working knowledge of lab specimen requirements as evidenced by adequate sample collection, post-collection handling, and distribution to proper lab section with minimal recollections.
Demonstrates working knowledge of lab computer/clerical systems: order entry, registrations, specimen receipt, printing labels, printing/retrieving/ faxing reports, and entering revisits.
