HVAC Mechanic I

SUMMARY:Provides service and maintenance for all aspects of mechanical operations and heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration equipment in support the University mission.QUALIFICATIONS:Strong verbal communication and listening skillsMaintains a high degree of professionalismHighly thorough and dependableWorking knowledge and ability to use the International Mechanical Code and perform work in accordance with IMCAbility to use tools, meters, gauges and equipment correctly and safelyWelding and/or soldering skillsAbility to read and understand schematic diagrams, and troubleshoot and repair problems of varied typesUnderstand basic chemistry, electrical basics, steam and water heating fundamentals, and HVAC & refrigeration basic cycles and principlesKnowledge of procedures for safe refrigerant and chemical handlingWorking knowledge of OSHA regulations pertaining to work performedRefrigerant Handling Certification (Universal preferred), upon hireRequired: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standingEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: H.S. Diploma or GED requiredTechnical training in mechanical work evidenced by obtaining or ability to obtain Journeyman's Mechanical License (typically 3 years Technical Trade School) required2-4 years' progressively responsible mechanical experience including familiarity with varied HVAC systems requiredWORK HOURS:Full-time; Non-exemptMonday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pmAll Facilities employees are designated as essential personnel and are subject to work outside the normal schedule on an emergency basis and are also subject to planned overtime work as required by the immediate supervisor.SALARY STRUCTURE:Pay Grade 5 (Hiring Range $19.72 to $26.13 per hour)
