UVA Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking an HPC System Engineer for the Research Computing Infrastructure Services team. This position is part of a team responsible for the configuration and maintenance of the HPC computer and storage clusters, Infiniband and Ethernet fabrics, along with providing support to our User Services team. This individual will work closely with the parallel computing specialists to develop, manage and debug software modules for the cluster, and to provide advanced hardware and operating system support and debugging.
The mission and goal of Research Computing is to provide centralized computational resources for researchers rather than general enterprise IT capacity. This involves working with a wide range of research software packages and the OpenStack Private Cloud Platform. Qualifications:The primary qualification we are seeking is experience in the HPC parallel programming environment. Formal training or education generally correlates with this, but a candidate driven by curiosity and enthusiasm for new challenges, and hands-on experience is of greatest interest.- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field and at least 5 years of relevant work experience
- 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- 3 years of experience administering an HPC cluster
- Ability to communicate technical terms to non-technical audience
- Able to work collaboratively and independently.
Experience with MPI programming and debugging. Experience with Lustre or GPFS parallel filesystems.
