Job Description:
We are seeking a diligent and safety-conscious Traffic Controller/Flagger to help maintain safe traffic flow around construction zones, roadwork, or other traffic-controlled areas. As a Traffic Flagger, your primary responsibility will be to direct and control the movement of vehicles and pedestrians, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed while construction or roadwork is taking place. You will be part of a team that helps minimize accidents and delays, ensuring that workers and the public are safe.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct Traffic: Direct vehicles and pedestrians through construction or work zones using flags, handheld signs, or stop/go paddles.
Ensure Safety: Maintain a safe environment by ensuring compliance with all traffic safety rules, regulations, and guidelines. You will be positioned to stop and divert traffic as necessary to protect workers, pedestrians, and drivers.
Monitor Traffic Flow: Observe traffic patterns, report any irregularities, and communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and drivers to maintain smooth and efficient traffic flow.
Signal Work Zones: Set up and dismantle traffic control devices, such as cones, barricades, and signs, to help create a safe work area.
Clear Communication: Provide clear and concise instructions to drivers and pedestrians using hand signals, signs, or radios.
Stay Alert: Remain vigilant at all times to detect any potential hazards and act accordingly to prevent accidents.
Follow Safety Protocols: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety standards and protocols to minimize risk of injury.
Report Issues: Communicate any traffic-related problems, hazards, or unusual incidents to supervisors immediately.
Requirements:
Experience: Prior experience in traffic control or construction flagging is preferred but not required.
Knowledge: Basic understanding of traffic safety practices and roadwork procedures.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and move between work zones.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills to provide clear and effective instructions to drivers and pedestrians.
Attention to Detail: Ability to remain alert and focus on tasks for extended periods of time to ensure safety.
Licensing/Certification: Traffic flagger certification may be required based on local regulations (training provided if necessary).
Safety-First Mentality: A commitment to following all safety standards and procedures.
Working Conditions:
Location: Outdoor work environment, with exposure to various weather conditions.
Hours: 12-hour shifts/ 7 days a week (may include evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on project requirements).
Physical Demands: Requires standing, walking, and the ability to lift light to moderate objects (up to 25 lbs).
Compensation:
$20-$25 an hour
