The successful candidate will use his or her specialized knowledge as a senior scientific advisor in pharmacology and related biological and physical sciences to be applied to the implementation of pharmaceutical assessments and legal criteria as mandated by the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). The Pharmacologist will perform some administrative, office and professional support activities, data entry, research and analysis, presentations, and support to customer managers to facilitate the effective performance of the federal organization. The Pharmacologist will perform other duties as assigned. Regular, predictable attendance is essential for satisfactory performance as is the ability to work both with minimal direction and within a team environment.Key duties and responsibilities:

Serves as senior scientific advisor in pharmacology and related biological and physical sciences as applied to the implementation of policies, procedures, and federal regulations.

Serves as pharmacology expert and provides scholarly consultation, advice, and expertise to the organizational management and professional co-workers on projects, relevant matters of expertise and to attorneys involved court proceedings of individuals charged with violation of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).

Serves as authority on drug schedules and substances of abuse and misuse with strong knowledge of uses legally and/or illegally.

Exhibits relevant expertise in performing a specialized job, task, or skill.

Collects and evaluates scientific articles and prepares reports concerning the pharmacological action of potential controlled substance and/or the application of new technology for their control for publication in agency, government, or scientific journals or for presentation at meetings.

Conducts literature reviews as requested on a variety of specialty related cases, existing regulations, or alternatives to existing methods.

Researches large volumes of data and performs analytical assignments involving specific issues associated with the prevention and elimination of the diversion of legitimate and illegitimate pharmaceuticals and chemicals.

Collects and review pharmacology data on new and emerging illicit drugs, write reviews and reports, inform management about drug trends, and monitor emerging drugs for abuse liability.

Applies expert and highly specialized knowledge to gather facts, research and analyze data, and develop conclusions, recommendations, and strategies.

Utilizes general knowledge of organizational strategic objectives to assist senior analysts in policy analysis.

Possesses expertise or insight relative to a particular technical or operational discipline, system, or process, and uses expertise to solve a particular problem.

Serves as point of contact for evaluations of complicated but clearly defined internal efforts, determining the effectiveness of program objectives related to pharmacological expertise.

Serves as a resource for the organizational administration through interpretation of studies and other policy-related documents and provide policy guidance on domestic and international drug and chemical control matters.

Works with other subject-matter-experts (SMEs) to review, evaluate, compose, and present statistical data and reports.

Assists project members with analysis and evaluation and with the preparation of recommendations for improvements, optimization, development, and/or maintenance efforts in specialty areas.

Works with senior staff to provide research, logical and reasoned writing and analysis, and interpretations for organizational related policies that may include Federal regulations, internal processes, and policy-related documents.

Provides organization with foundational knowledge required to draft modifications or supplemental guidance on pharmacological aspects of contracts, evaluations, reports and relevant policies.

Recommends administrative and regulatory action for a variety of regulated drugs or related substances

Organizes and maintains DOEC pharmacology databases

Performs other duties as assigned relevant to subject matter expertise.

Education and Experience:

Master's Degree and a minimum of 1-15 years of experience. Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in biological, medical, veterinary, physical science, or pharmacy, which includes at least 30 semester hours in chemistry and physiology and 12 semester hours in pharmacology.

Strong writing, analytical, and research skills

Able to work as part of a team and independently with minimal direction

Strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook), technology systems, and communication tools

Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills; excellent prooing skills

Professional demeanor

Abilities and Skills:

Strong organizational skills.

Intermediate to advanced skills in manipulating data in Excel preferred.

Ability to multi-task; detail oriented; be observant and anticipate operational needs.

Excellent problem solver and able to handle difficult situations.

Knowledge of a wide range of analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to conduct related research and assessment projects.

Skill in oral and written communication to effectively establish and maintain contacts, relationships, and partnerships.

Security Requirements :Security Clearance Level: Public Trust

Applicants selected will be subject to a government background investigation and must meet eligibility and suitability requirements.

Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance.

Successful Pass of Bennett Aerospace Background Investigation, Drug Screening and Credit Check.
