Essex Junction Recreation & Parks (EJRP) is hiring a full-time Ground & Facilities Technician to support parks and facilities year-round. Responsibilities include grounds operations (lawns, athletic fields, courts, snow removal), facilities operations (carpentry, mechanical systems, plumbing, electrical, repairs, remodeling, new construction), and pool operations (Maple Street Pool maintenance). The position reports to the Grounds and Facilities Director and may involve evenings, weekends, or holidays. Ideal candidates should have operational experience, be willing to learn, be a team player, value the role of recreation and parks in the community, and enjoy serving the public. A valid driver’s license is required. RESPONSIBILITIESGrounds OperationsPrepare grounds for scheduled use, including set-up, clean-up, and coordination of needs with users.Summer grounds maintenance: lawn mowing and fertilizing; tree/shrubbery pruning; planting grass, trees, shrubs, flowers, etc.Winter grounds maintenance: snow and ice removal, salting and sanding, monitoring snow depth on low-pitched roofs and removing as necessary, monitoring pool cover, draining excess water from covers, supporting outdoor recreation needs (snow hills, ski/snowshoe trails, ice rinks, etc.).Athletic field preparation and maintenance.Playground equipment monitoring, inspecting, maintenance, and repair.Courts maintenance, cleaning, and repair – basketball, tennis, skatepark, parking lot, etc.Basic construction tasks: ditch digging, pouring cement, laying tar and asphalt, fence installation, painting, stonewall repair, etc.Other seasonal tasks include raking leaves, sweeping and removing sand, and controlling erosion.Trash/recycling pick-up and removal.Ensure public safety by regularly inspecting and maintaining park equipment for vandalism, repairs, and repair as needed.Monitor park grounds and enforce park policies and rules in all parks; notify the Grounds and Facilities Director of incidents/damages; call Essex Police Department as necessary.Pool OperationsUnder the guidance of the Grounds and Facilities Director, support the maintenance of Maple Street Pool – including opening, closing, and day-to-day maintenance to include water balancing adjustments, cleaning, testing, and troubleshooting.Facilities OperationsPrepare facilities for scheduled use, including set-up, clean-up, and coordination of needs with users.Communicate regularly with the Office Coordinator and other staff to learn about daily facility needs.Ensure the regular cleaning of EJRP-operated buildings year-round, including emptying trashes/recycling, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, wiping walls and surfaces, cleaning bathrooms (toilets/urinals, sinks, mirrors), restocking supplies, etc.In addition to regular cleaning, maintain an annual cleaning schedule for washing windows, doors, shampooing carpets, etc.Ensure proper cleaning of the outdoor bathrooms.Support proper cleaning of the pool house bathrooms.Indoor winter work includes ceiling tile/window replacement, hardware repair, replacing light bulbs, and refurbishing park amenities (benches, goals, swing sets, etc.).Perform a wide range of semi-skilled and skilled carpentry and related trades work associated with the repair and construction of facilities, including major repairs, remodeling, and new construction projects involving:Rough and finish interior and exterior carpentry work.Concrete and masonry work; roof work, and plaster and drywall work.Interior and exterior painting and staining, including surface preparation.Basic plumbing and electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs; and assistance to licensed plumbers and electricians on more skilled plumbing, heating system, and electrical installation, upgrading, and repair projects.Basic mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs; and assistance to the Grounds and Facilities Director in the maintenance, repair, and modification of a variety of recreation vehicles, engines, and equipment.MiscellaneousAble to assume all grounds and facilities responsibilities in the absence of the Grounds and Facilities Director/Foreman for short time periods.Execute work plans as assigned by the Grounds and Facilities Director.Recommend enhancement or renovation projects as required to maintain state-of-the-art, environmentally conscious, safe, and functional grounds and facilities.Perform various tasks related to assigned projects, including building, repairing, painting, and troubleshooting.Special work orders (deliveries, pick-ups, set-up/tear-down of special events).Maintain tools and equipment.Other related duties as assigned.Finance and AdministrationMake recommendations to the Grounds and Facilities Director regarding supply, equipment, and capital needs.Personnel ManagementWork with, support, direct, and lead part-time and seasonal grounds and facilities employees.Volunteer ManagementWork with individual and group volunteers to provide access to appropriate supplies and equipment and ensure work is completed effectively, efficiently, and safely, as assigned by the Grounds and Facilities Director.Other Professional DutiesConfer and communicate regularly with department administration and personnel, the Recreation and Parks Director, the Grounds and Facilities Director, Public Works, municipal staff, and relevant internal and external organizations and individuals.Seek out and actively participate in opportunities for professional development (i.e., attend seminars, workshops, and/or conferences to enhance maintenance-related knowledge, skills, and certifications).Suggest procedures or make recommendations to the Grounds and Facilities Director that will enhance or improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Grounds and Facilities Department within the available resources.Leverage personal strengths, skills, and knowledge beyond the Essential Duties and Responsibilities to support other areas of EJRP.QUALIFICATIONSLanguage SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and development.Required Education and ExperienceHigh school education or equivalent plus 2 to 4 years of relevant technical training/experience in a variety of related disciplines (i.e., field maintenance, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems, security systems, mechanical equipment, architecture, etc.) or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.Additional Eligibility RequirementsCertified Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) (or able to become certified within one year).Certified Playground Safety Inspector (or able to become
