About Us:

Our restaurant has been a local favorite for over 50 years, serving great food in a welcoming, pub style family setting. Located in a charming old schoolhouse, in Montgomery Vermont, ( a semi-sleepy ski resort town) we take pride in making everything in house and serving key staple dishes that have kept guests coming back for generations.

In addition to these signature dishes, our LEAD will have the opportunity to create daily and weekly specials, allowing room for creativity while maintaining the integrity of our core offerings.

Job Overview:

POSITION:

We are looking for the right person to fill our current opening as a LEAD COOK/KITCHEN MANAGER.

This position is responsible for ensuring that our staple menu items are consistently prepared to the highest standard. These “Favorites” are important to maintain and keep on our menu.

In addition to these “signature dishes”, our will have the opportunity to create daily and weekly specials, allowing room for creativity while maintaining the integrity of our core offerings.

The ideal candidate is organized, efficient, and passionate about creating exceptional food. This role requires someone who is a strong leader, organized, and able to manage a small high-volume “a la carte” kitchen efficiently.

The ideal candidate is reliable, takes ownership of their work, and enjoys cooking in a warm small “close-knit” community focused environment.

Responsibilities:

Execute staple menu items with precision and consistency, ensuring they meet our high standards. (this includes Steak, Burger, Fish, Seafood, Sauté and Pasta Cookery)

Develop and prepare daily and weekly specials that complement our core menu.

Lead the kitchen team, providing clear direction and maintaining a positive work environment.

Stay composed, calm and collected and work efficiently during high-volume dinner hours and busy service periods.

Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient kitchen, realizing the owner’s standards.

Work closely and communicate efficiently and positively with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service and guest satisfaction.

Train and support and lead kitchen staff (if applicable) to maintain quality and efficiency.

Manage inventory levels; communicate with the purchaser consistently and efficiently about the inventory; and minimize waste while upholding food quality.

Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.

ServSafe/HAACP experience/knowledge or certification is not required but would be beneficial.

Qualifications:

Proven experience of at least 3+ years, as a Lead Cook, Kitchen Manager, Rounds Chef or strong Sous Chef experience in a small or fine-dining setting.

(hot apps, grill work, sauté, salads, pastas, burgers, steaks, fish, seafood, desserts)

Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a kitchen team.

Expediting skills

The ability to consistently execute staple dishes while also developing creative specials, with clean, precise attractive presentation.

Strong organizational skills to run a small, efficient kitchen.

Ability to work independently and adapt to a reservation-based service model.

Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.

Excellent time management and intrapersonal skills and quick problem-solving skills.
