Company description:

Butcher and Pantry is a collaborative idea centered around rural living. The business features three prominent concepts: sustainability, quality, and value.

At the heart of the store is our whole animal meat counter, which focuses on the preservation of meat through curing and smoking. Additionally, the market receives seafood native to New England waters twice per week. The marketplace also offers a thoughtful selection of natural wine and craft beer. Seasonal produce, local dairy, and artisan cheese further connect the marketplace to the region. A plentiful stock of groceries, from daily necessities to epicurean novelties, is a prominent area of growth and interest for residents and visitors.

The need for product utilization and to meet the growing demand for "Ready-to-Eat" food is represented best through our cafe, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our mission is to feed our community in the most sustainable and wholesome fashion. Through the community of local farms, craftsmen and collaborators, the marketplace is pushed toward a goal of supporting constant engagement in central Vermont. We greatly value our employees contributions and feedback allowing the business to be molded into a forum of progressive concepts.

Job description

Our kitchen staff are proud of their from-scratch cooking, locally sourced ingredients, and a productive, healthy work environment; it’s a high standard we strive to uphold.

In more concrete terms, the responsibilities of the role are as follows:

Create consistent, quality meals for customers on the line in a timely manner.

Assist in the preparation and breakdown of ingredients in a team setting.

Actively participate in general kitchen sanitation, cleanliness, and organization.

Dedication and enthusiasm almost always make up for experience, and we’re glad to train a candidate who is ready to take on new knowledge.

With this in mind, there are some minimum requirements we’re looking for:

Efficient and safe knife skills

Time management

Ability to produce consistent and quality results

Enthusiasm and a positive attitude

The role is that of a line cook, but our ideal candidate is one with imagination and drive: our closely-knit squad has a lot of experience, and with a smaller kitchen comes tremendous opportunity. We’re always looking to innovate, try new things, and practice new techniques. Projects over the last year have included pté, torchons, and other charcuterie; curing and smoking of all kinds; and plenty of experimentation in the bakery.

Opportunities to learn and grow with our business are available, and we are delighted to encourage the interests of our team. Some of these include:

Whole animal butchering - from carcass to chops, and everything in between

Curing & smoking meat - lox, sausage, brisket, and much more

Fermentation projects

Working with us, there are also a few sweet perks:

Paid time off

Paid breaks

Delicious shift meals

In-store discount

Stipend for continuing education

If you are interested in learning more about our business, or joining our team, please get in touch.

Compensation

Hourly, varies DOE, $18.00 - $20.00
