Sr. Loads & Controls Engineer (WEG Electric Corp – Barre, VT); Develop models of wind turbines using Bladed. Run simulations and process data according to international standards. Conducting WISDEM System Level Optimization. Create statistics, histograms, rainflows, power spectral density plots, etc. Develop tools to improve the modeling process. Work with engineering teams to analyze the impact of the control system on wind turbine dynamics and loads. Participate in regular design reviews on loads and control system status and issues. Process field test data and compare to simulated data. Evaluate feedback from field and improve control system design. Develop turbine sub-system controls simulations. Prepare design documents and test procedures. Participate in Turbine Stage Gate and Deign Development Process (leading and attending design reviews, developing and verifying system requirements, and managing portions of the turbine documentation package).

Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 4 years of experience in designing and testing wind turbines and related components. Must have 4 years of experience in each of the following: Performing system-level dynamic modeling of dynamic rotating machines and power systems; Calculating wind turbine loads and controls modeling 100kW or above; Modelling power electronics, analog and digital electronic systems, power distribution, controls, rotating electric machines, pitch systems, communications protocols, vector control of machines, mechanical systems, or wind turbine technologies; Utilizing tools such as Bladed, Flex5, OpenFAST, Matlab or Simulink for modeling dynamic systems; Designing, modeling and analyzing dynamic wind turbine systems; Performing Vibration & dynamic structural analysis; Analyzing Aerodynamics and control; and, Working within a Quality Management System. Experience may be gained concurrently.
