JOB SUMMARYThe School Library Technology teacher (LTT) works with both students and teachers to facilitate access to information in a wide variety of formats, instruct students and teachers how to acquire, evaluate and use information and the technology needed in this process, and introduces children and young adults to literature and other resources to broaden their horizons. As a collaborator, change agent, and leader, the school librarian develops, promotes, and implements a program that will help prepare students to be effective users of ideas and information.This position plans and provides instruction to students based on state, District, and school curricula and requirements and based on the students' social and other formative skills. The LTT facilitates and participates in a variety of meetings and committees to support a coherent, connected curriculum and meet high standards for student achievement.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop clear and relevant instructional goals based on Utah Core Standards for Library Media that are suitable for students in cooperation with the classroom teacher.
Implement knowledge of content pedagogy and knowledge of students and their developmental needs in order to create meaningful learning experiences for students.
Use a wide variety of resources appropriate for diverse learning styles.
Design coherent instruction for flexible groupings that includes clear and focused lesson structure and appropriate timing according to student needs.
Demonstrate broad knowledge of curriculum and coordinate learning activities with classroom instruction where appropriate.
Create a respectful library environment by establishing positive and respectful teacher-student interactions that are appropriate to developmental and cultural norms.
Manage library procedures and protocols, including those regarding instructional groups, transitions, handling materials and supplies, and performing non-instructional duties.
Manage student behavior by establishing clear expectations, monitoring and dealing with students throughout class time, and following through appropriately to correct misbehavior while respecting student dignity.
Organize library space for safety and for effective learning.
Notify faculty, staff and students of new materials in the library media center through regular planned communication.
Contribute to the school and the District by establishing and maintaining professional relationships with colleagues and participating in District and school projects/extracurricular activities.
Grow and develop professionally by seeking out opportunities for professional development and by participating in professional activities and organizations.
Manages budgets for library books, periodicals, and other materials in a professional and ethical way.
Addresses the selection of library materials as per SLCSD Board Policy I:7 Administrative Materials, Curriculum, and Instructional Materials.

Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements in an efficient and effective manner; required to attend activities, events and meetings outside of normal work hours on a regular basis.
Demonstrates adaptability and understanding of cultural differences in working in a diverse environment while coping with stressful situations related to stude ts and maintaining confidentiality.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operations of the school/department.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Risks found in the typical work environment, which is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations.
Driving to work locations within the state (district schools, conferences, meetings), including transporting materials and equipment as needed to various sites to support teachers and professional development.
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work: however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current Professional Utah Teaching License or an out of state license that is transferrable to Utah.
Master's degree in Library Scienceand/or alibrary media endorsement (if currently in an approved endorsement program for library media, must have completed a minimum of one (1) course before first day of contract and complete program within two (2) years and provide evidence from the program).
Has an ESL endorsement or will attain one withinfour (4) years of initial employment with the District.
Three (3) years of successful teaching experience in public education and/or working in a public library system.
Has the ability to operate standard office and classroom equipment, including computer, printer, overhead, copier, phone, and fax. Is proficient in the use of Office software and has the ability to work with cataloging systems and other programs.
Performs essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, accurately, and safely, with or without reasonable accommodation, and without posing a threat of harm to self or others.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Education or related field.
Experience working with school library programs.
Speak, read, write, and understand Spanish.
Evidence of professional development in and implementation of research-based practices to support diversity and inclusion in libraries.
Demonstrate knowledge of content pedagogy and knowledge of students and their developmental needs.
Experience with management of library systems and collections.
Experience with classroom instruction of multiple grades and age levels.
