Job DescriptionThis is a remote position: This position does not require the employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work off-site on a permanent basis.As a key member of the Sustainable Workplaces team, the Scope 3 Decarbonization Lead will champion the scope 3 GHG emissions profile for GM and assist in achieving GM’s Science Based Targets and carbon neutral goals.The ideal candidate has an analytical and strategic mind with a background in environmental engineering or sciences. Specifically, working with GHG calculations and the GHG Protocol. This is your opportunity to grow into and contribute to some of the most prominent and important themes of our age: climate change and sustainability.The candidate will need to understand the complexities of scope 3 emissions accounting in line with the GHG Protocol. This individual will be expected to develop a systemic way of accounting for scope 3 data globally and be able to grow that data set into an actionable strategy through pricing, partnership, and strategic initiatives to reduce carbon emissions. The Scope 3 Decarbonization Lead will need to be able to work cross functionally throughout GM and with our suppliers to drive change and reductions.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, or environmental related programs (climate and environmental sciences etc)

Experience with GHG emissions calculations and reporting

Understanding of Science-Based Targets requirements and The Greenhouse Gas Protocol

Basic knowledge of carbon emissions methodologies (e.g., energy efficiency, abatement, renewable energy)

Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

Strong time and project management skills

Fast learner, capable of quickly gaining domain expertise in the highly complex climate and sustainability markets

Clear analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to envision and propose new and creative ways to solutions

Passion for technology and issues related to climate and sustainability markets

Ability to work well with teams in a collaborative way

Exceptional business and technical communication in English, verbal and written

Preferred Qualifications:Experience performing and reporting scope 3 calculations for corporations

Expert knowledge of scope 3 methodology

Experience with GHG Protocol

Experience with Science Based Targets

Responsibilities:Own all 15 categories of scope 3 emissions

ESG scorecard global owner for scope 3

LCA calculations of materials that suppliers are using

Interface to waste SME to improve data accuracy and efficiency

Document processes, look for inefficiencies and improvements in data accuracy-share globally

Liaison to CO2 group, planning, and long-term forecasting for category 11- communicate needs and status

Work with the supply group to develop scope 3 supplier data collection process and own the process (data needed, sources, format, analysis, etc.).

Communicate to materials group, supply group, support supplier treasure hunts (feedback loop of lessons learned and express needs to meet goals)

SME for supplier carbon neutrality pledge

Work with the industry to clarify scope 3 reporting accuracy and be seen as a leader in scope 3
