Job Description
Database Engineer 5 Riverton, Utah 12-24 month contract The Database Engineer 5 plans and conducts assignments, generally larger and important projects or more than one project. A Database Engineer 5 is fully responsible for the systems and infrastructure which support a product. The person in this role directs and guides the design in a way that ensures compliance with technical and architectural standards. The Engineer understands and communicates the non-functional requirements which are necessary for successful product operation. Additionally, the position ensures the implementation and transition into production happens smoothly. While the solution runs in production this person is responsible to resolve any problems or issues that are escalated to him/her. The Engineer engages vendors in the resolution of incidents as necessary, and once an incident is resolved, the Engineer is responsible to ensure all defects in the system or process are identified, tracked, and resolved. This person ensures that all proposed changes have been adequately planned and reviewed eliminating the possibility of unplanned service outages. This individual works with divine guidance to provide or support technology that furthers the mission of the Church and reflects the eternal impact of the gospel. RESPONSIBILITIES- Configure and maintain the Oracle database software.
- Create and implement data structures, stored procedures, views and other Oracle Database objects.
- Analyze and protect data, including troubleshooting, backups, security processes and configuration.
- Design and develop both data services and data integrations.
- Follow engineering best practices.
- Fulfill technical lead role for database engineering solutions.
- Evaluate, recommend, purchase, install, test, upgrade, and maintain existing or proposed systems to structure and access database systems.
- Lead in creating standards for all groups.
- Create standards and procedures for operations teams.
- Train support personnel and systems users.
- Analyze database systems problems and provide problem resolution.
- Respond to security issues and requests.
- Participate in Problem Management process.
- Maintain production documentation.
- Comply with policy, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in an on-call rotation working evenings and weekends.
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent professional experience
- 8 years relevant professional experience.
- 6 years of experience supporting product development activities and be capable of guiding technology decisions.
- Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge in field of specialization to the completion of significant assignments.
- Proven successful leadership skills.
- Experience with Change, Incident, and Problem management processes. Strong operational understanding and discipline.
- Must have mastery of Oracle PL/SQL.
- Oracle Query Performance Tuning.
- Experience supporting data services and integrations in virtual environments.
- Experience with both transactional and analytical data processing.
- Exceptional communicator: both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating vendors and their products and be capable to identifying critical gaps in their offerings.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and train her or his peers.
- Strong understanding of the business processes being supported by the solution.
- Outstanding troubleshooter, with the ability to think under pressure and drive the hardest problems to resolution.
