Creative Services Manager

The Creative Services Manager (CSM) conceptualizes and designs the visual identity of the College of Fine Arts and Communications (CFAC) and its constituent departments. The position requires a brand strategist, strategic thinker, viewer/listener advocate, and design intelligence. Critical to the position’s success is the ability to visually and graphically portray strategic messages associated with the work of the college using text, photography, video, and other media forms to promote and enhance the work and values of the disciplines of fine arts and communications in the eyes of all of its key publics. The CSM will be responsible to work in project-based environments with deans, chairs, directors, and faculty to be a problem solver and a collaborator, and must be able to aid administrators and faculty by translating key ideas and messages about programs within the college to effectively market the arts and build the academic reputation of the college.

Ongoing Management and Development of CFAC and ARTS Branding

  • Consults with college deans, chairs, directors, and faculty to determine visual requirements for projects and internal needs

  • Creates and refines the creative brief, the vision document that creates all guidelines for forthcoming messaging
  • Working as a member of the Marketing and Relations Committee (MARCOM) the CSM integrates visual branding into the college print, web, and social media platforms.

  • Responsible to create messaging and platform strategies
  • Designs and maintains the look and feel of the BYU ARTS brand and collaborates with External Relations to maintain the CFAC and BYU brands when representing BYU ARTS.
  • Participates in major brand brainstorming sessions for BYU ARTS Events
  • Leads the creative aspects of design projects to completion and manages outside creative resources where necessary
  • Works with others to select advertising/marketing ideas and messaging directions to pursue and execute, ensuring all branding elements are unified and coherent throughout the organization
  • Is the quality control filter for all visual and verbal communications associated with a brand or advertising campaign
  • Meets regularly with internal and external vendors to collaborate, pitch ideas and campaigns and receive feedback

Management of Creative Services Team

  • Proactively organize work-flow to meet deadlines and budget

  • Manages designers and copywriters providing feedback, direction and instruction. Oversees and direct all creative services projects.

  • Directs and mentors the Creative Services Team including students
  • Meets with the Marketing Services Director often to report on strategies, progress, budget, processes and potential Improvements

Creating Deliverables (Designing, Writing, etc.)

  • The CSM is responsible for the design and execution of brochures, posters, fliers, and web-based and social media
  • Creates online visual design, including branding, visual concept, and icon design, for the college and its departments

Qualifications:

  • Excellent design skills, with the ability to understand and visually communicate the culture and disciplinary values of the fine and performing arts and communications

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Demonstrated successful design, integration and delivery of projects on time and within budget

  • Skilled in design of digital campaigns and other online retention programs and campaigns

  • Understanding of and experience with design for the campaign process, providing direction and leadership, and creating deliverables that meet strategic objectives
  • Experience in creating promotional materials that can be utilized in various platforms (print, web, digital signage, multimedia, social media, TV, radio, etc.), as evidenced by portfolio review
  • Strong conceptual skills, including online software concepts and online experience concepts

  • Understanding of and experience in corporate branding
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Ability to organize, oversee and give artistic direction to student designers

  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite

Required:

  • BA in graphic design
  • Extensive experience in designing, branding, and crafting stellar products for companies/consumers

  • Expert-level design skills and knowledge, including but not limited to graphic design, photography, etc.

  • Ability to handle and brainstorm several marketing campaigns at once

  • Experience pitching or presenting creative concepts and gathering and incorporating feedback

  • Experience crafting stories and storytelling expertise

  • Experience managing client-based needs
  • Strong background in graphic design, audience relations, and marketing and should be comfortable working with teams of people in project-based environments

Preferred:

  • BFA in graphic design
  • Experience managing large campaigns and/or budgets in entertainment, media, or publishing spaces.

  • Experience in campaigns that include photography and video (promotions/commercials, pre-roll, short-form/social, etc.)
