Position Title:Line Clearance Arborist (Appr. - Journeyman)Job Posting Closing Date:12/03Provo City is looking for a full-time Apprentice Line Clearance Arborist to provide skilled power line tree clearance work in support of Provo City’s utility and street tree maintenance programs. This position includes working around power lines to clear trees and other debris as well as other general maintenance duties. Climb trees using safety devices and harnesses.

Under close supervision, assist with trimming trees and shrubs from high voltage power lines to eliminate safety hazards and to ensure power reliability.

Remove tree limbs and other items that obstruct wires.

Assist in performing rigging maneuvers with ropes, blocks, slings, and other tools and equipment.

Provide maintenance care including planting, watering, spraying, sweeping, fertilizing, pruning, and anchoring trees.

Cable, brace, tie, bolt, stake, and guy trees and branches to provide support.

Safely operate or assist in operating various power tools, equipment, and vehicles.

Load job order equipment onto trucks.

Empty various containers into trucks and receptacles.

Set out flags and cones for work site safety.

Assist other crew and staff members as needed and perform other related duties as required.

What are the minimum qualifications?

Provo City will honor equivalent combinations of job-related education and experience (substituting each one year of education/training for six months of experience).

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).

A valid, lawful Commercial Driver License.

One year of experience as a tree trimmer.

Flagger Training Certification.

Registration as a Tree Trimmer Apprentice (Line Clear) with the Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship USA program.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on December 4, 2024. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
