Scope:The Lab Assistant II (LA II) is an experienced Lab Assistant, with advanced knowledge of specimen processing in the clinical and/or pathology areas of the lab. In addition to basic LA I responsibilities, the LA II may act as a Team Lead or Trainer and assist with adverse event investigations, research study coordination, moderate complexity testing, and may fulfill functions of a Coordinator or Supervisor, in their absence.These caregivers compassionately communicate procedures and instructions with patients, family members, and other caregivers and demonstrate empathy during every interaction. The LA II may be responsible for deescalating stressful situations calmly and respectfully. They will have opportunities for growth, developing skills such as:
Technical writing
Downtime planning
Advanced instrument or automation troubleshooting
Advanced specimen troubleshooting in clinical and/or pathology labs
Other responsibilities as required by site or assigned by the team or department leader
Minimum Qualifications:
Basic Life Support certification (BLS)/RQI for healthcare providers (only applicable at sites where LAs perform phlebotomy)
High School diploma or GED in compliance with CLIA regulations
Excellent communication skills to include ability to read, write, speak and understand effectively in English
Advanced skills and performance typically acquired with experience performing specimen processing in a clinic or hospital setting
Customer service skills
Ability to work in a team environment under stressful situations
Ability to take on-call shifts, according to department needs
Self-motivated and able to work independently
Basic computer skills
Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays and nights
Adheres to all personal protective requirements including, but not limited to, gloves, lab coats, face shields, and masks
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching concepts to others
One year previous LA experience with Intermountain Laboratory Services or two years’ prior clinical or pathology lab assistant experience

See and read lab equipment, monitors, and documents.
