This position will be supporting the Propulsion Systems Division at our facility located at the Promontory, Utah site.We are excited for you to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. As a Principal/Sr Principal Test Engineer, develop environmental, structural, dynamic, and static test processes for aerospace components including; rocket motors, rocket motor initiation systems, ordnance devices, and illuminating devices using customer specifications, engineering drawings, test plans and other documentation as applicable.
This position will focus mainly on the mechanical aspect of testing. The ability to define and understand tooling, handling, and operational needs for testing is critical.
The test preparation process includes: review of requirements, development and coordination of safety protocols, design and integration of support equipment, and documenting the test process.
Test engineers work closely with the Safety and Hazards Analysis departments and support cross functional teams in designing and setting up energetic test processes.
Test engineers must have demonstrated ability to manage complex test projects and be non-compromising with regards to safety even when working under pressure.
Test engineers must be comfortable presenting technical data to internal/external customers, suppliers, and vendors.
Test engineers spend time in test facilities (including at offsite customers) developing solutions to a variety of complex testing challenges.
Basic Qualifications:This position can be filled at either a level 03 or 04.Basic Qualifications for a level 03:
B.S. degree in an engineering discipline. Prefer Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.
Minimum 5 years applicable experience.
Must be disciplined to follow detailed instructions and comply with procedures.
Excellent written and oral communication skills to create clear and understandable planning for operators.
Detail oriented but able to understand the big picture.
Must be able to qualify for an Alcohol Tobacco and Firearm (ATF) “Explosives Possessor” designation.
Must be able to qualify for a Department of Defense security clearance.
Basic Qualifications for a level 04:
B.S. degree in an engineering discipline. Prefer Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.

Must be disciplined to follow detailed instructions and comply with procedures.
Excellent written and oral communication skills to create clear and understandable planning for operators.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience supporting Testing Operations.
Ability to create/modify simple sketches in CAD or related software for planning sketches.
Prior experience with energetic materials.
Have a working knowledge of test instrumentation and data systems.

Salary Range: $92,600 - $139,000Salary Range 2: $114,900 - $172,300The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
