The basic function of the Spotter and Yard Support role is to support the daily operations of Transport Continental Inc. in Laredo, TX by acting as a ground guide to assist forklift operators and drivers when maneuvering in tight or congested areas.
Additionally, the Spotter and Yard Support role must assist with general yard tasks such as organizing equipment, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting the team as needed.
Responsibilities
Provide Forklift spotting support as a core responsibility.
Assist operators by acting as a spotter/ground guide, helping them safely maneuver into docks or tight spaces using clear hand signals or communication devices.
Ensure proper trailer placement at docks, staging areas, or assigned parking spots based on the terminal manager’s instructions.
Coordinate with the terminal manager, supervisors, drivers, and the shop to position equipment as needed.
Help maintain a clean and organized yard by performing daily litter removal in the shop, yard, and surrounding grounds.
Assist with loading/unloading as needed.
Remove tarps from cargo in a safe and efficient manner.
Transfer dunnage materials from one trailer to another as required.
Support minor yard maintenance tasks (e.g., cones, signage, general upkeep).
Support general yard operations, such as helping with loading/unloading, fueling, or washing equipment as needed.
Requirements
Minimum of one year of experience working in a yard, warehouse, or similar facility.
Forklift spotting and Maneuvering Techniques: Understanding how to guide the maneuvering and positioning of company equipment, including forklifts.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Communication: Clear verbal communication skills to coordinate with operators and yard staff.
Knowledge of freight handling procedures and safety regulations is a plus.
The ability to lift twenty-five to fifty (25-50) pounds may be required.
Licensing & Certification: Valid driver’s license.
