Job Overview
"Tending" is a specialized service platform dedicated to preserving the memory and honoring the resting places of loved ones through high-quality monument care. As a Headstone Cleaning and Restoration Specialist at Tending, you will be responsible for cleaning, repairing, and preserving gravestones and memorials. You will use gentle, non-invasive techniques to remove dirt, moss, and other buildup while ensuring inscriptions remain legible and historically accurate. Through the Tending app and portal, you will manage and document your projects, communicate with our support team, and uphold our standards of excellence and respect.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspection & Assessment
Examine headstones to identify damage, staining, or other deterioration.
Determine the best cleaning and restoration approach based on stone type (granite, marble, limestone, etc.) and severity of wear.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Remove dirt, lichen, moss, and other organic matter using approved, non-invasive cleaning solutions and soft brushes.
Ensure inscriptions are preserved and remain legible.
Repair & Restoration
Perform minor repairs, such as filling cracks or chips, stabilizing leaning stones, and sealing surfaces to prevent further damage.
Use conservation-friendly techniques that meet heritage standards when working on historically significant monuments.
Digital Documentation
Utilize the Bezikaon platform to log before-and-after photos, record your cleaning/restoration methods, and provide updates on project progress.
Maintain detailed digital records for clients, including recommendations for ongoing care and maintenance.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Training:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework or certifications in conservation or stone restoration is a plus.
Technical Knowledge:
Familiarity with different types of stone (granite, marble, limestone, slate) and the appropriate cleaning/restoration methods for each.
Understanding of chemical safety, cleaning solutions, and proper handling of tools and equipment.
Experience:
Previous experience in cleaning, restoration, masonry, or a related field is highly desirable.
Training in heritage preservation or historical monument care is advantageous.
Attention to Detail:
Ability to perform delicate cleaning tasks without damaging inscriptions or altering the monument’s appearance.
Communication & Customer Service:
Clear and empathetic communication with clients, families, and cemetery staff.
Good record-keeping skills for documenting work and sharing recommendations.
Physical Stamina & Safety Awareness:
Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions, standing for extended periods, and lifting moderate weights.
Commitment to following proper safety procedures to protect oneself and the integrity of the monuments.
Working Conditions:
Primarily outdoor work at cemeteries or memorial sites, involving travel to various locations.
Tasks may require kneeling, bending, and using specialized tools or cleaning equipment.
Work hours can vary, with flexibility needed to accommodate client needs and weather conditions.
Salary & Compensation
Compensation Range: $40,000 – $50,000 per year (commensurate with experience, certifications, and geographical location).
Additional Earning Opportunities: Potential for performance-based bonuses or incentives related to project volume, client satisfaction, and specialized restoration tasks.
