DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSUnder the direction of the Deputy Director of Transportation & Drainage Operations, the Senior Assistant Director oversees the coordination of the Stormwater Maintenance Branch. This includes managing the daily operations of Houston's vital storm drainage infrastructure. The role supervises the Technical and Management Support Section, Storm Sewer Maintenance Section, and Ditch Maintenance Section. Responsibilities include developing, updating, and implementing processes for the Stormwater Branch, focusing on employee development and customer service for both internal and external clients. The Senior Assistant Director also coordinates and manages CIP projects, drafts and enforces standard operating procedures, and represents the department at community, town hall, and departmental meetings. The role is also responsible for fostering a positive work environment that promotes teamwork and inclusive problem-solving, while establishing reporting guidelines for drainage systems and directing the development and implementation of new or redesigned systems.WORKING CONDITIONSThe position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION REQUIREMENTSRequires a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Administration, Business Administration, Advertising, Public Relations or a related field.Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
