Tenured/Tenure-Track: Open Rank (Full-Time) Medical Physiology Location Bryan/College Station, TX Open Date 8/15/2024 Position ID 145596 Description The Texas A&M University College of Medicine Department of Medical Physiology (MPHY) seeks to fill three (3) full-time positions for a Tenured or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, depending on qualifications. Each one is an 11-month appointment with an anticipated start date in the fall of 2025. Each position will report to the Department Head of Medical Physiology and will be based in Bryan-College Station.The selected applicants will contribute to the growing neurophysiology group in the Department of Medical Physiology and the neuroscience community at Texas A&M University College of Medicine more broadly. These positions build on our commitment to overcome a critical expertise deficiencies in cellular and subcellular investigations aimed at identifying novel molecular targets for understanding synaptic and intrinsic neuronal dysfunctions that play central roles in a wide array of neurological disorders for which there are presently no effective clinical treatments. Through collaboration with existing faculty, this expansion program seeks to bring new expertise to bear on neurological disorder already being investigated at circuit and systems levels by existing faculty in the College of Medicine. Focus areas will include ischemic/traumatic brain injury, neuropsychiatric disorders (substance use disorders, PTSD, anxiety, depression), neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's, aging-related dementia, Parkinson's disease, ALS, etc.) as well as neuroendocrine and autonomic dysfunctions in cardiovascular (hypertension, heart failure, chronic kidney disease) and metabolic (obesity, diabetes) diseases. In addition, candidates with expertise in the neurological and vision deficits associated with prolonged exposure to microgravity and radiation during space flight will be strongly considered. The latter is expected to be a major component of the new Aerospace Medicine and Health initiative of the College of Medicine. The selected candidates will contribute to graduate and medical education training programs in cellular/synaptic neurophysiology, clinical neurology and/or Aerospace Medicine/Health. Filling these positions will help Texas A&M University and the College of Medicine become a national and international leader in solving the unmet challenge of improving clinical outcomes for patients suffering from major neurological, neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. These positions will be a catalyst for advancing Texas A&M University as an international leader in Aerospace medicine. The College of Medicine’s expectations for holding a tenured/tenured-track position include effective undergraduate and graduate classroom teaching; mentoring and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral students, particularly recruiting and mentoring of doctoral students and guiding them through graduation in a timely manner; establishment of a sustainable research program through external funding; publication of papers with students in venues that demonstrate impact;, and providing a degree of service to Texas A&M University and the professional community. Ph.D., MD, or equivalent professional degree

Advanced training in cellular, molecular, and/or circuit-level neuroscience

Demonstrated scholarship reflected in peer-reviewed research publications and grant funding appropriate for their career stage

Preferred:

Advanced training/experience with real-time measures of pre- and postsynaptic functions among individual central nervous system neurons with the capacity to interrogate functional outcomes at the neural circuit and/or whole animal level

Experience with state-of-the-art neuroscience techniques including, but not limited to, electrophysiology, optogenetic and/or chemogenetic approaches, and/or advanced microscopy/imaging techniques
