Job Description:
As an Entry-Level Legal Assistant, you will primarily support client cases before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals. You might be our ideal candidate if you have a strong work ethic, the ability to take initiative, and can stay two steps ahead of a case. Excellent attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish, and the ability to compassionately communicate with clients about delicate subjects are crucial for this role.
Responsibilities:
Maintain clients' awareness of their cases and respond to inquiries
Communicate with clients to gather supporting documents for their cases
Analyze client documents and information to prepare future case documents
Enter client correspondence and log case information in our case management systems
Organize and maintain both digital and physical client files
Draft and prepare case documents, forms, and declarations for submission to the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
Prepare client packets for mailing and drop packets off for mailing
Stay up-to-date on EOIR and USCIS best practices and filing instructions
Minimum Qualifications:
Highschool Diploma or its equivalent in administrative skills or training
Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
1 year experience comparable administrative assistance
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English and Spanish
Strong organizational and time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines
Good interpersonal and customer service skills
Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Suite apps (Sheets, Word, etc.)
Ability to maintain confidentiality, and exercise discretion and good judgment
Efficient independent worker with a proactive and disciplined work ethic
Based in Austin with reliable transportation
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk working on a computer
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
