I'm a scientist with Long Covid living in Austin Texas looking for a part-time assistant. Although I'm posting in Austin, this is a remote-friendly position. Great fit for a graduate student, a parent who has down time while the kids are in school, or someone else who is looking for longer-term part-time work.
The position is for 10-15 hours per week, and pays $20 - $25 / hr, depending on experience, via Venmo. It's for a mix of things, ranging from helping me with presentations and personal projects, to (frequently) taking basic life tasks off my plate, which I'm less able to do because of Long Covid. These include:
Submitting and tracking job applications on my behalf. (You'll have all the materials, of course.)
Helping design & refine presentations
Things like renewing my passport (basically finding the relevant forms, filling out what you can, and giving me a short list of what I need to do to complete the process)
Research assistance for various projects (if you like learning new things, you'll enjoy this part)
Helping start a business / manage vacations / help with moving / help with online research and organization for my own and my mom's health conditions / helping manage the crisis of the week!
Requirements are:
high general competence! The ability to handle new tasks by doing your own Googling, the ability to pick up new software (e.g. Adobe products you haven't used before). There are things I'll be asking you to help with that might be new to you (helping refine my resume, helping do the paperwork to start a business, helping research various health concerns), and although we'll be working together on these, and you can ask me all the questions you need, it's essential that you be able to stand on your own.
being extremely effective and self-directed at admin and basic online research tasks
being a clear and thorough thinker / worker / communicator
having patience and empathy. There will be some days where I'm feeling good and will move very quickly, but on the flip side, Long Covid has me sometimes staying in bed for days, so there will be times where you'll be waiting on me before you can do the next thing I'm asking you to do, and I'll just be too sick to do it. I'm looking for someone who is the right balance of self-directed, competent, and fast-moving but who will help work with me in my current condition, rather than being frustrated by my health limitations.
The 10-15 hrs per week will be almost entirely your own time, but I will want to have 2-3 one hour co-work sessions per week, which we can schedule for times that are mutually convenient. If you're local to Austin and are able to travel to Clarksville on occasion, that's a plus, but definitely not necessary.
