Job Purpose

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Boarding Facility Assistant to join our team and help provide top-notch care for the dogs in our facility. As a Boarding Facility Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of the dogs in our care, as well as assisting with daily operations of the Boarding Facility.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The primary job duties and responsibilities of the Boarding Facility Assistant include but are not limited to the following:

Provide daily care for dogs including feeding, bathing and exercising.

Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the Boarding Facility and play yards.

Supervising and monitoring canine behavior during play-time activities

Provide gentle and safe handling of dogs.

Monitor the health and well-being of dogs and report any concern to the operators.

Assist with intake and discharge procedures for boarding dogs.

Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with dog owners regarding their dog’s needs and well-being.

Perform heavy lifting tasks related to moving supplies or larger dogs when necessary

Perform other relate tasks as required.

Required Education and Experience

Thompson + Hanson requires minimal education for this position. Previous boarding experience or experience working with dogs is ideal but not required.

Qualifications:

Genuine love and respect for dogs with a commitment to their welfare

Boarding experience at another facility

Must have own transportation, be punctual and dependable

Must have good communication skills (verbal and written)

Ability to provide excellent dog care

Has a basic understanding of canine behavior

Customer service skills and ability to handle heavy lifting duties

Working Conditions

The Hound House Boarding Facility Assistant primarily will be responsible for the care and well-being of all dogs boarded at the Hound House. Daily, the Hound House Boarding Facility Assistant will be required to engage and exercise the dogs whether it is taking them on walks 2-3 times or encouraging them to roam in the indoor play area or outdoor pool. Dependent on weather, the incumbent will be exposed to a variety of weather conditions such as extreme heat or extreme wind/rain. The incumbent must always be alert, aware of their surroundings and act quickly should any dogs get into spaces they shouldn’t be in, or not get along with other boarded dogs. The incumbent will be exposed also to the daily smells of the dogs and chemicals and are required to pick up and sanitize all areas of the facility in order to maintain the cleanliness of the Hound House.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is regularly required to bend, twist the body, keeping or regaining their balance, making repetitive motions such as standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, walking and running. The incumbent may also be required to push/pull certain objects, bend or stoop to pick up objects, hold onto items, and move or lift objects up to 50 pounds.
