Spay/Neuter Veterinary Technician (Flex position 20-40 hrs/wk)

Job Description:

The Spay/Neuter Veterinary Technician will be responsible for supporting the daily operation of the low-cost spay/neuter clinic located at GAIN in Yigo on a Flex schedule. Duties will include, but are not limited to interacting with clients and their pets in a professional and courteous manner, working closely with the clinic staff to ensure the safety and well-being of our patients, and providing clerical support as needed.

Primary Responsibilities (under oversight of veterinarians):

Directing clinic staff in a high-volume, fast-paced, spay/neuter environment

Directing volunteers, teaching and assigning tasks

Safely handling dogs and cats in a clinic setting

Administering medications to cats and dogs, placing IV catheters, inducing anesthesia

Preparing animals for surgery

Providing pre-op and post-op monitoring for dogs and cats

Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining clinic facility

Wrapping and autoclaving packs

Supporting veterinarians during surgical procedures

Providing additional support to clinic staff as needed (intake, discharge, phones, etc.)

Directing volunteers, teaching and assigning tasks

Cleaning cages and prepping for the next surgery day

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is a certified/registered veterinary technician

Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment

Ability and willingness to commit to a Flex schedule – generally M-Th with some week-long or weekend events. May include travel to CNMI for events

Comfortable communicating with clients in person and over the phone

Experience working with and handling animals

Ability and willingness to follow directions

Ability to lift and handle dogs, cats, and equipment over 50 lb

Possess an interest in animals and animal welfare

Willingness to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities
