About the Work Unit:The Clinical Placement Office works collaboratively with faculty, program directors, and students to ensure all students have a productive clinical experience. The Office is responsible for recruiting appropriate clinical placement sites within the greater Middle Tennessee region for specialty-year students. It is also responsible for ensuring all appropriate agreements are in place and all agency requirements are met for distance students’ rotations. This includes negotiating agreements with agencies throughout the United States and occasionally overseas.Key Functions and Expected Performance:The following functions and performance should be handled with ease and professionalism, the key functions listed below are essential to the Clinical Placement process:

Be the team lead for 1-3 specialties, managing the clinical placement activities

Work with students to identify sites for their clinical rotations

Cultivate ongoing relationship with local sites (site visits, email and phone communication, face to face meetings)

Meet with faculty regularly to discuss placements details, recruiting efforts, contracts, requirements, action items etc.

Attend orientations for assigned specialties

Model agreement contracts for local and distance students

Responsible for making sure requirements are completed by local and distance students for placements (license, background check, drug screen, immunization records, attestation letter, Board of Nursing requirements, workers comp insurance etc.)

Attend regular Clinical Placement departmental meetings

Compile VUMC student rosters for assigned specialties

Update and publish placement information in the Exxat portal including requirements for site, clinic address and details and preceptor information

Communicate with students regarding their placement information and requirements; be the contact person for 1-3 groups of students to meet, if necessary, or answer any questions

Communicate with faculty regarding student placement information, requirements, contract etc.

Cold calling sites and geographic searches to recruit placements for local and distance students
