Job Description

Ensure the adherence of the all Health and Safety requirements

Focus on clean room environment critical to produce contaminant free carbide

Ensure incoming powder stock level accuracy and conformance to quality specifications

Ensure metallurgical consistency in the process through knowledge of cemented tungsten carbide and effect of furnacing conditions on final product quality

Calculate and program CNC equipment to cut profile on Large Belt Carbide

Maintain and control PVA sintering equipment to ensure proper sintering conditions critical in producing consistent quality carbide

Polish and set tooling for pressing of substrate to ensure zero defects on profile

Constant communication with maintenance, QC chemical, Met lab and Supply chain to ensure OTIF delivery and low inventory levels are maintained

Be on call when furnaces are running in order to assist in fault finding and quick correction of furnace trips in order to ensure heat loss during cycles are less than 30°c

Strong focus on critical safety control points due to nature of working with highly flammable acetone, Hydrogen, Propane and Methane gas

Strong focus on critical safety control points with regards to vacuum handing of green compacts

Manage and lead a team to ensure the departments objectives are achieved

Qualifications

Metallurgical/Chemical Engineering Degree/Diploma is essential

In addition, a Production Management Diploma will be advantageous

Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience within a similar environment

Proven experience and ability in driving Process Confirmations, JDE management and stock control whilst leading an HSE culture

Experience in STaC and WRACs, and safety file management is required

Criteria and Skills

Portray sound Problem Solving techniques/abilities

Sound experience in manufacturing of cemented tungsten carbide

Critical understanding of Carbide specifications and how the data effects carbon, tungsten, cobalt additions and sintering conditions

Sound knowledge of CNC programming and effect of stress and initiation defect points when cutting green carbide compacts. – Fanuc, Unimation and Bosch control

Knowledge of vacuum furnace conditions, especially effect of carburisation and de-carburisation on carbide

Knowledge in refurbishment of vacuum furnaces

Sound knowledge in Carburisation of anvils, from batch make up to ideal sintering conditions

Strong fault finding and root cause analyses skills

Understanding of technical aspects related to pre-synthesis processes, with ability to analyse and evaluate product quality in line with changes in operational processes

Ability to supervise the team and guide production requirements and output target setting

Sound knowledge on all Microsoft packages (MS Office, MS Excel, MS Word)
