Job Description

Key responsibilities:

  • Building on an existing strong foundation, lead development and implementation of the Group strategy to both implement the Building Forever Net Positive Impact on Biodiversity Goal and establish De Beers globally as a leading brand with regard to biodiversity and protection of nature.
  • Work with the De Beers Group Technical Leadership team to integrate our NPI on biodiversity commitment into operational planning.
  • Work with the Group and country Sustainability and Corporate Affairs teams to integrate Building Forever Biodiversity pillar goal into local BU strategies.
  • Take accountability for identifying, prioritising, implementing and scaling Group-wide actions to accelerate progress on the Group’s Biodiversity Goal.
  • Collaborate with the Carbon Neutral and Social Impact teams to realise value for our carbon and community goals from our conservation land management.
  • Provide line management and oversight for the Ecology team in South Africa.
  • Lead research partnerships and explore opportunities to raise profile of De Beers as a global thought leader in the Biodiversity and Conservation space.
  • Develop a global external stakeholder network on Biodiversity and Conservation to anticipate and incorporate external trends and broaden awareness of De Beers’ Building Forever framework, goals and programmes.

Qualifications

Formal Qualifications:

  • A postgraduate qualification in Environmental Sciences.

Role-specific Knowledge:

  • Track record of operational experience and delivery within a global organisation
  • Demonstrated experience of driving performance within a technical environment, including the coordination of knowledge sharing across disciplines, managing workloads and setting strategic direction.
  • Knowledge of leading global best practice and innovation in the conservation / biodiversity space.

NB: Regional and international travel required.
