Position Description:

Software Engineer contract role Java Spring Batch and Snowflake (or similar experience) .

We are looking for a Software Developer to assist in the creation Data Lake on an AWS platform. The BI group is responsible for crafting, building and maintaining the operational and analytical capability. The data infrastructure is going through significant growth, and this is an opportunity to take a contributing role in shaping capability in this area. FI has been tasked with building a Data Lake on Snowflake hosted on AWS. This is a multi-year initiative which starts with foundational build-out in 2019 followed by prepared and curated layers.

Project information: A major data initiative standing up an Enterprise Data Lake on the AWS platform. The Data Lake will be hosted on the Snowflake cloud data warehouse. Each business unit will be standing up an Agile team to contribute to the data lake with one goal being the facilitation of cross business unit data sharing.

Responsibilities:
  • Participates in the development, improvement and maintenance of database applications both as an individual contributor and as a team member
  • Designs batch cycle procedures on major projects using scripting and Control M and performs functional analysis for major projects supporting several corporate initiatives
  • Works with IT partners and user community for project definition; works on multiple platforms and multiple projects concurrently
  • Performs independent technical analysis, debugging and troubleshooting as well as code and unit testing for complex scope modules, and projects
  • Serves as a technical resource for others and participates in rotating production support activities
Required Qualifications:
  • Solid grasp of database engineering and design (Relational, De-normalized, Data Lakes, etc.)
  • Advanced Java / Spring Batch experience in designing and developing complex distributed applications.
  • Experience developing data solutions on an MPP platform like Teradata, Netezza, Vertica, Greenplum, Redshift, Snowflake. Note it does not need to be Snowflake. Looking for candidates that have experience developing solutions using Java versus ETL tools.
  • Experience developing data ingestion processes using Kafka
  • Knowledge of AWS and Azure platforms - some hands on experience. Doesn't need to be extensive
  • 3 or more years of Development experience - Java a must,advanced programming/distributed systems design.
  • Comprehensive experience with database systems and related software
  • Experience with Control M (or similar job scheduling AutoSys)
  • Knowledge of DBMS optimizer and performance tuning techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret physical data models and ability to translate requirement documents into technical solutions
  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline and SDLC
  • Knowledge of Agile development
  • Good communications skills in addition to being an outstanding teammate
  • Advanced Java / Spring Batch experience in designing and developing complex distributed applications.
  • Experience developing data solutions on an MPP platform like Teradata, Netezza, Vertica, Greenplum, Redshift, Snowflake. Note it does not need to be Snowflake. Looking for candidates that have experience developing solutions using Java versus ETL tools.
  • Computer Science degree preferred or a degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • AWS / Cloud experience or some exposure.
