Hardware Operations Specialist

Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island The Hardware Operations Specialist is responsible for the placement, installation, removal and coordination of equipment and resources in the Data Center. This position will also be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, receiving and documenting facilities and hardware resources. Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 - 3 years of hardware installation experience in a Data Center environment
Job Competencies:
  • Knowledge and operational understanding of some of the following systems, software & hardware
    • Network connectivity in a LAN/WAN environment
    • Power requirements and best practices for Data Center application
      • UPS / PDU / GEN
    • Servers (HP, Dell - various models)
    • Storage Arrays
    • Cooling systems
    • Monitoring and alerting systems
  • Recommended operational knowledge and skill sets in the following areas:
    • Ability to perform advanced problem analysis, recovery and escalation procedures.
    • Automated scheduling packages.
    • Operation of peripheral equipment i.e. Printers, Automated Tape Libraries, and Drives.
    • Strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of data center infrastructure management software (DCTrack or Sunbird)
  • Demonstrates a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
Successful completion of a criminal background check and education verification is required.
