Job Description: Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a full-time entry- to mid-level Environmental Scientist/Wetland Scientist with 0-5 years' experience for our York, PA office to assist in our growing Natural & Cultural Resource practice. The position will entail technical work focusing on natural resource surveys and documentation, with an emphasis on transportation and pipeline projects. U.S. Residency Required.

Position Summary: The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team including environmental scientists, archaeologists, architectural historians, engineers, and planners. The qualified candidate must be able to write at a professional level and present ideas in a well thought-out and comprehensive manner. The preferred candidate will enjoy a variety of working conditions ranging from field efforts to office analysis. Essential functions and responsibilities will include:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Assist with aquatic resource delineations and report preparation with a desire to lead future field work and author reports;

Assist with threatened and endangered species screening and coordination, including species surveys and habitat assessments, and report preparation with a desire to lead future field work and author reports;

Assist with preparation of permit applications and agency coordination;

Assist with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and report preparation;

Perform construction and post-construction field inspection and monitoring of environmental best management practices;

Assist with environmental screenings for proposal purposes;

Create maps and figures to accompany technical reports, NEPA documentation, and permit applications using ArcGIS, MicroStation, and AutoCAD;

Assist with the development of NEPA documents (Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, and Environmental Impact Statement documents);

Assist with stream surveys including geomorphic and watershed assessments to support ecological restoration and mitigation activities;

Perform other related duties as assigned

Possess computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Internet (web-based applications). Experience with CADD or MicroStation a plus.

Experience with GIS

Preferred Experience

Experience with performing wetland delineations

Experience authoring technical reports including scientific and/or NEPA documents

Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD drafting

Experience supporting NEPA documents, stream assessments, and preparing permit a plications in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland

MDE Responsible Personnel Certification for Erosion and Sediment Control

Working Conditions

This position requires approximately 50% working in the outdoors and 50% working in an office setting.

The preferred candidate must enjoy working outdoors. Field work is required approximately 50% of the time and will require but may not be limited to certain physical demands while performing duties in the field. These physical requirements will include the ability to walk, stand, kneel, or bend for extended periods of time and be able to carry field equipment and supplies long distances. Field work may be conducted during any time of the year and may occur in a variety of weather and field/terrain conditions, as needed. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed. The candidate is not required to perform field work in hazardous weather conditions or obvious unsafe conditions. Field work may require travel within the continental U.S. and require up to a week away from the office at a time.

Work is performed within a general office environment approximately 50% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Office work is performed with adequate lighting and temperature, with no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
