The Department of Corrections is seeking motivated and reliable Utility Plant Operators to join our team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for overseeing an inmate work crew in the performance of tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of our boiler plant at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands. DESCRIPTION OF WORKIn this position, you will oversee and guide inmates during an assigned shift in the maintenance, operation, and repair of a boiler plant that produces steam, hot water, chilled water, or electricity, or receive these services from external vendors. It is essential to monitor the plant's systems, make the necessary adjustments to maintain optimal performance, and accurately track fuel usage and the generation of steam, hot water, or chilled water. Additionally, you will be responsible for suggesting improvements to procedures or equipment to increase the plant’s efficiency. The job may also require operating auxiliary electric generating equipment for regular electricity production or as a backup during emergencies. You will work independently to analyze problems and implement effective solutions. Interested in learning more? Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
Work hours are 2:30 PM to 10:30 PM, with every other weekend off.
Additional days off will be discussed at the time of your interview.
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,986.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant;or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
