The Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program (PennTAP), housed within the Office of Entrepreneurship and Commercialization, is expanding its team and seeking a Technical Advisor.PennTAP is committed to helping Pennsylvania businesses improve their competitiveness by leveraging university resources to drive innovation and sustainability. Our technical advisors play a crucial role in connecting industry with the expertise and tools needed to thrive in today's market. As a Technical Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in providing hands-on support to small and midsize businesses throughout Pennsylvania.Key Responsibilities: Following are the key duties of this position:
Conduct on-site industrial energy efficiency and pollution prevention assessments.
Investigate the facility's equipment processes, take photos, conduct interviews with relevant site employees, collect information from equipment nameplates, review equipment specification documents, and will use industry appropriate tools to take single-point measurements, where required.
Identify opportunities, and complete analysis of data collected on-site for energy conservation and pollution reduction projects.
Engage with clients to understand their technical needs and provide tailored recommendations or solutions.
Offer technical consultations on energy management systems, such as the 50001 Ready Program.
Assist businesses in applying for relevant grants and rebates.
Foster connections between Pennsylvania businesses and Penn State resources to support innovation, job growth, and sustainability initiatives.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with private sector companies and other stakeholders.Qualifications:
Minimum of a Master's degree preferably in a relevant field (e.g., engineering, environmental science, management) and 6+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Professional certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Six Sigma Green Belt, or LEED Green Associate are highly desirable.
Strong background in managing client relationships and providing exceptional customer service.
Excellent communication and project management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement practices.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.Preferred Experience:
Experience in manufacturing, energy efficiency, or environmental consulting.
Familiarity with grant writing and administration.
Familiarity with regulatory compliance and environmental permitting processes.
