JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:For over 20 years, the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity (https://studentaffairs.psu.edu/csgd) (CSGD) has been serving students of diverse genders and sexualities at The Pennsylvania State University. Boasting robust student support services and educational initiatives focused on student success, the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity has helped to make Penn State one of Campus Pride’s top LGBTQ+ premier campuses.The Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity provides opportunities and fosters networks across the greater Penn State community to better understand and support the diversity of our world along with acknowledging that everyone deserves to thrive during their educational journey as their authentic selves. To create safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environments for all sexually and gender diverse students, our undergraduate, graduate, and full-time staff strive to center the experiences of transgender, gender non-conforming, gender diverse, and non-binary students. As part of that support, we have worked with campus and community colleagues to enhance the coordination of services specifically for our gender-diverse communities with a newly defined staff position complementing and furthering the existing work happening within and outside the CSGD.The Gender Diverse Community and Belonging Coordinator has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, the following:Case Management and Resource Support
Provide guidance and referrals to transgender, gender non-conforming, gender diverse, and non-binary student populations on topics related to personal wellness including housing accommodations, medical transition options, and other areas of concern.
Work closely with campus partners across the Penn State campuses to support transgender, gender diverse, gender non-conforming, and non-binary students across the Commonwealth.
Support and advocate for students experiencing challenges and provide empathic, emotional, educational, and cultural support.
Build relationships with community and regional entities that may assist in a student’s journey.
Serve as a non-medical member of the Gender Diverse Care Team.
Make referrals to related resources as needed.
Programming
Assist with the creation and/or modification of programming and educational materials aimed at increasing student success rates such as mentorship programs, community programs, and career development opportunities for transgender, gender non-conforming, gender diverse, and non-binary students.
Assist in the development and facilitation of educational opportunities for faculty and staff to help better support transgender, gender non-conforming, gender diverse, and non-binary community members on campus.
Collect data, compile, and create reports related to engagement initiatives along with their effectiveness.
Solicit and incorporate feedback from students and other stakeholders, and based on that data, evaluate the effectiveness of content and programming.
Administration/Supervision
Assist in the supervision as needed with student staff employed by the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity.
Assist with general office responsibilities, which include answering phone calls, greeting patrons of the Center, etc.
Represent the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity along with gender-diverse initiatives on university committees and advisory boards.
Make appropriate referrals and maintain rapport with students, faculty staff, and other units interacting with the office.
Assist with planning and tracking of Student Fee Board allocated funds including keeping track of expenditures that support programs.
Necessary Skills and Knowledge
Demonstrated knowledge of transgender, gender non-conforming, gender diverse, and non-binary identities and systematic barriers related to and at the intersection of other identities.
Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate workshop/training curricula on transgender, gender diverse, and non-binary identities.
Demonstrated knowledge and application of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging principles and practices working with students and colleagues.
Demonstrated knowledge of the challenges facing students, staff, and faculty from historically underrepresented communities
Demonstrated knowledge of student development and skills in support of student communities and their associated organizations
Experience with program development, implementation, and assessment in student affairs or related student services
Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills
Education & ExperienceMinimum requirements are a Bachelor’s and 3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
