The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences in the College of Agricultural Sciences and the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences of The Pennsylvania State University is seeking applications for a tenure-track, faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank in Pharmacology. The position specifically focuses on expertise in microbiology, toxicology, and metabolism/metabolomics, with research interests encompassing the study of the microbiome, cancer biology, toxicology, and/or the impact of drugs or environmental chemicals on disease development. Candidates with expertise in transcriptional regulation and cellular signaling associated with gastrointestinal health, and environmental sensors are also highly desirable. The faculty member will be expected to develop a strong, high profile independent research program supported by extramural funding to generate novel discoveries relevant to pharmacology and the microbiome. As a new faculty member, the candidate will play an integral role within the trans-institutional Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences and the Penn State Microbiome Center of Excellence, and will benefit from collaborations with internationally-recognized faculty within the Center for Molecular Toxicology and Carcinogenesis, the Center for Immunology and Infectious Diseases, and graduate programs in Pathobiology, Molecular and Cellular Integrative Life Sciences, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology, and Nutritional Sciences. This position has 75% research and 25% teaching responsibility, including an undergraduate Pharmacology course in the department and graduate course in the area of their research expertise. The salary and start-up package are competitive and commensurate with background and experience.Qualifications:

Applicants with a PhD in pharmacology, biochemistry, cancer biology, physiology, microbiology, or other relevant disciplines are encouraged to apply. Employment at the postdoctoral level with publications in gastrointestinal health and/or cancer biology are preferred. The successful candidate must have completed all degree requirements by the appointment date. Utilization of modern approaches including metagenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, or metabolomics, as well as comparative approaches across species are encouraged. Successful candidates must possess excellent research, teaching, and grant writing skills. Communication, creative leadership, congeniality, and the ability to work cooperatively among a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, industry, and agency groups are required.Community:
