Heavy Equipment Mechanic - up to $30/hr

We are looking for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team and perform mechanical repairs with minimal supervision to ensure proper performance and safety.

Maintains diesel & gasoline equipment operations by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; keeping records. Position has a good working knowledge of all tools and equipment required to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair possible problems. Full time, hourly position. Candidate is a skilled heavy vehicle, diesel and mobile equipment mechanic with the ability to diagnose most problems and perform the appropriate repairs. This position routinely requires moderate to extreme physical exertion and may require prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, squatting and working in awkward positions. You will be exposed to extreme weather conditions, dust, dirt and shop environment, as well as traffic during road calls.

Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.

Keeps equipment available for use by field personnel by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades.

Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.

Tunes, adjusts, regulates equipment engines, valves, pumps, carburetors and other mechanical components with variable setting.

Lubricates and services vehicles, equipment or machinery and maintains accurate record of such service. Enters all truck tasks and time into fleet management software.

Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.

Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.

Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.

Assists with keeping shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance.

Contains costs by using potential warranty; evaluating service and parts options.

Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.

Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Regularly participates in the housekeeping of the mechanic shop to ensure a safe work environment; to include sweeping, cleaning up spills, using appropriate containers for rags, keeping walkways clear of clutter, returning tools/parts to appropriate storage containers/area, closing doors on cabinets, etc.

Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment & vehicle problems to determine method and extent of repairs needed.

Read, interpret, analyze and apply information in technical manuals, computer programs and schematics.

Perform preventative maintenance and repair of on-road vehicles.

Safely operate equipment, standard and specialty tools, welders, hoists and other lifting devices, etc. on a daily basis.

Maintain work area and shop in a clean, organized and safe manner.

Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

Other duties may be assigned.

Skills:

Must have good working knowledge of all tools and equipment required to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair possible problems.

Skilled heavy vehicle, diesel and mobile equipment mechanic with the ability to diagnose most problems and perform the appropriate repairs.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Diesel Experience Required

Must possess a basic understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems

Must have experience in welding and metal fabrication

Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
